The rules don't apply to them

Just back from a very pleasant 5 night stay at CAMC Moorhampton. For those who know the site, when we arrived on Thursday there were none of the "nice" sunny pitches on the left hand side of the site. Didn't bother us one bit, we just took one of the vacant pitches on the other side. When we left today there were just 11 other units on site. It was a nice sunny day so we asked the wardens if we could stay for lunch and leave at about 2 pm. No problem, they said, and there was not a single arrival by the time we left at 2:05.
Does that make us bad people?!!

Yes, because you over-stayed your agreed leaving time by 5 minutes and are you sure you asked permission to stay late😂😂

Oh yes, you are horrible people according to some on here
Glad you had a nice time and made the most of the time had there, that's what the whole caravaning thing is all about for me and not moaning about what others do when a bit of common sense and courtesy is applied

I think your missing the point I having left before midday and the member was nearly 2hrs early as is stated in the booking instruction and did it make me feel better yes as I condent stop laughing because he couldn't revers for toffee but he had a good bit of partice by the time he'd revers the 200yback to the road.

I'm not missing your point at all, RW, but I think you missed mine.
Generosity of spirit, not assuming the worst of people, the milk of human kindness, understanding another's mistake..... I could go on as you seem to have missed them all.

No. sounds like the perfect club member. Just gets on with their holiday.

It does seem to come down to the sites being run, staffed, maintained, whatever by just a couple of people - four at the most, but they get days off. So the "Club" has over the years developed a profitable method of running sites to suit the labour force, and not the customers.
Now here is the oddity. The "warden" system has site fees we are all familiar with. So how could I stay on an independent site with much better facilities (including four bathrooms i.e.rooms with a BATH; tap and drain on the pitch; a scenic view from every pitch, and a bar and shop on site) for £14 a night? They also had a staff of at least fourteen, though some might have been part-time, who kept the place to a similar standard to the Club, but without ALL toilets closed at the same time, or a constant running grass cutting programme.
They were making a profit as investment and development was obvious.

Could it be, Nav, that it was well outside of the main holiday periods that you stayed there, and that the price is well above that of CC sites during those main caravanning periods?
BTW which site was it you stopped on, as it sound like the type of site a number of CT would like visit, me included.

I did a price comparison with the full blown Caravan Club site just a few miles away, but without the view. The price there was nearly double for the same period, but no baths, and no "super pitch" facilities. Admitedly that £14 was a mid-week price, it was £16 on Fridays and Saturdays. Their prices do change with the seasons, but still remain conspicuously cheaper. And it is not supported by the bar prices as that was very competitive as well.
I would be happy to tell you which site privately (as that is how I got to know about it) but this forum does not consider its users to be adult enough to allow private messaging. I would not want half of the CT contributers turning up though, as there would be less room for me to get another booking.

Thanks Nav. Will be in touch re the site. It's always good to have those sort of sites in ones recommendation list.

Well, it was 11.45 on a Friday. There were 5 caravans in the new arrivals area, there is really only room for 4 unless others are ushered into the car park, the last unit was blocking the road around the site. The wardens were returning from the toilet block and hardly anyone had left the site. One unit wanted to leave but couldn't as the road was blocked. One of the wardens returning from the toilet block asked the 5th new arrival to reverse a bit and get over into the car park as people trying to leave could not get by. The drivers reply was that people know they should be off by 1200 so why are they still there? Then the 1st vehicle in the arrivals queue had booked in, started moving around the site but got held up by the chap trying to depart who couldn't because of the 5th new arrival.

Wonder what the warden said to the comment about those having to be off by 12:00. I wonder if he questioned the person why he was there earlier than 12:00.

As the events related by Elorac occurred at 11.45am, those leaving were not late but those arriving were too early and were to blame for the congestion.
How full was the site? The leavers might have had permission to stay later if there were still sufficient pitches to accommodate the arrivals.
How were you able to hear what the driver said to the warden, Elorac? You must have been so very close.

Whilst I agree with the majority on here who support more flexibility in the enforcement of this subject, it is important (as AJB suggested earlier) on some sites, that the arrival and departure times are enforced rigidly.
I am referring to those sites, many in Cornwall but also in rural areas all over the Country, where the approach roads, over many miles, are just too narrow to allow two caravans to get past each other safely. In those cases safety and convenience for ALL road users, demands a sort of tidal flow for caravans.
Members leaving a site need to do so with a certain amount of confidence that they will not come into conflict with an early inbound caravan. By the same token members driving towards the site in the afternoon, should not expect to meet a late leaver in the narrow lanes.
Yes I do accept that such a tidal flow system cannot control commercial vans & delivery wagons, but at least we will not be making matters worse!

This was a site for just touring type leisure vehicles only?
Ps very few cc sites have all toilets closed while the staff have to clean the meets some leave them in
The site accomodated everything from backpackers through all sorts of vehicles and some staics as well, along with pods and some half buried eco-bunkers. And there was good wifi throughout apart from one of the bathrooms which was in an old stone building.
Indeed, very few have both ladies and gents closed at same time, but on the many sites where there is only one of each that is in effect "all closed" unless one cross dresses for the occasion.

So all the large amount of staff Were employed around a multi type leisure park
On most sites that have only one facilities block we have found that the disabled or stand by toilets are opened for use while the main block is being returned to the standards most have come to respect,

So your assumption is that if you meet a caravan or motorcaravan coming from the opposite direction its off a near by CMC site .
That's rather a bold statement , other people use other sites as a number of members keep reminding us about , how on earth would you know .......I suppose you could always stop them to ask & not wildly speculate .😜
Maybe members of the CMC should have a visual hand gesture to inform other members of their status.........I know what id prefer 🙋
