Awning sizes really confusing!
Hi all. I'm new to caravanning and need some advice on awning size. I understand that a full awning for my van requires a 900cm one but whilst looking to buy i see various smaller sized ones. My question is how do the smaller ones fit on, or don't they? Thanks in advance 🤔

The awning needs to run around the length of the awning rail and down to the ground with some to spare to acount for uneven ground. The spare can be accomodated on level ground by pegging out slightly wider at the base near the caravan. If it is too short there will be a gap beneath the awning for the wind to whistle through.6'' too long can probably be accomodated. 6'' too short and no chance.

EasyT is right. Generally a longer awning can be accommodated to an extent but a shorter one gives much less flexibility and is likely to leave gaps at either end if not on perfectly level ground.
One thing to consider when buying an awning is that some manufacturers group their awning sizes. These groupings vary dependant on manufacturer. An example of this is that you could buy awning for a 900 awning length, as you require. Some brands would less two awnings for a 900 length, sized (875-900) or (900-925). In this case it would be your decision but going with the larger awning is likely to fit more often. You would need to check the manufacturers recommendations.
Be aware that not all manufacturers group sizes in the same way.

When you say that you see smaller sized ones, are you meaning 'porch awnings' and awnings that are not the full length of the caravan?
I'm no expert on awnings, but I believe this sort only have the bead (the bit that fits into the track on the edge of the caravan roof) for part of their length, and the awning then hangs down, maybe halfway along the caravan, with the fabric just butted up to the wall of the caravan.

And measure to check it won't cut across windows.
