fixed bed gas struts

Anyone had a problem with fixed bed gas struts?  The two which operate our Bailey Modena fixed bed are stuck in the open position so I have had to remove them in order to close the bed.  The caravan is under warranty but I would be interested to know if there is a simple repair solution.

I get the opposite problem that they won't hold up the weight of the mattress and bedding so I have an old awning pole to hand that has been set to an approbriate length with a big rubber pad on each end.  Might keep you going until replacements arrive.

Not had that problem; it sounds like new struts needed. Had the same problem as nav. because the struts on the Bailey would not support the bed with a memory foam topper. Had new struts fitted under warranty but in the end we also used a broom handle!

This maybe useful for anyone looking to replace and gas struts not covered under warranty.

I need to replace my front roof vent ones and found a place in East London with an ebay outlet. I have ordered a pair of these,

eBay item number:282203602536  they are OEM parts, same part number and make as originals and the price of a pair is the same as most Caravan part suppliers want for one frown

Check the rating and buy a pair off eBay.

Darn sight cheaper than going to a dealer and quicker delivery.

We had one fail during the summer of 2022. A third party replacement, while still away, stuck causing the bed frame hing pop rivets to fail on one side. When we got home, the steel frame needed removing to replace the rivets. We rigged up a spring tester using a sash cramp and our nose weight gauge, which confirmed that the replacement was correctly tensioned. All has been well since then. A while back we replaced the mattress with a Duvelay one, which has made bed lifting much easier and increased our user payload proportionally. Owning a caravan is a never ending opportunity to engage with repairs.
