Water pump

Hi everyone.  Please excuse my ignorance as I am a newby and first trip is booked for next week.

Today I tested my water system in the van and it went well apart from with all taps off the pump still pulses every 20 seconds or So! Is this normal? Or does somebody know why it might be acting this way?

Thankyou in advance

On the newer 'vans the water pump is actuated by sensing a drop in pressure on its outlet. This is usually someone turning on a tap. When you turn the tap back of it will keep running for a few seconds to build up the pressure again. Over time the pump's seals leak enough pressure to trip the pump again for a few seconds, but I'd expect that to happen one in four to five hours only.  So either you have a leak in a pipe somewhere, or in the seals in the pump.

As water loose in a caravan is disaster getting ready to happen I'd go look for the leak(s) as soon as possible. It might well be where the pump connects to the 'van if it is a submersible type that drops in the water container. Easy enough to test with another pump as well there.

A fixed internal pump would need new seals which I have heard are fairly cheap but a horror to fit.

It could be that if you have a pressure switch, it needs a slight adjustment.. There is loads of info here :
