I'm  one of  "Merve's  Converts"  cool  but  I  do  have  a  question  :--

Are  the  Bio  pods  classed  as  "Green"   w r t  their  use  in  Septic  Tanks ?

The  reason  I  ask  is  having  booked  a  CL  in  Scotland  I  was  told  on  their  website,  &  by  the  Owner  that  Green  is  the  only  acceptable  type  of  fluid  to  be  used  there  !!

    Confused  of  Crewe  laughing

No they aren't green sorry to say.  But that hasn't stopped me from using them at home in my ancient tank.

I would ask the CL user if laundry has to be washed "green" and see what they say.  In my opinion bio pods are greener than formaldehyde but that could be wishful thinking.  I do carry Thetford green for your sort of scenario but haven't used it in a while.

I wonder if Thetford have gone in for Pods since so many of us have switched to laundry ones for ease of use.  Blue/green fingers may now becoming  a thing of the past.  wink

Right advanced apologies for the silly question.

Is everyone saying these are the BIO tablets for washing clothes?

Do you put these straight into the cassette and thats it? Currently have bottle of blue for it at present but i like the sludge comments rather than the clingers. ha ha

    Yes

Edit sorry for short possibly considered abrupt response was on my Kindle and it would only let me type one word. Be it the first second or third, I know this and it's most frustrating 😣. Then went to my phone and website just hung 😣 same Internet etc etc flipping website!

Yes we've used these ones for the past two years much prefer them but always keep some organic fluid in case they can't be used on sites.. sometimes smectic tanks but there always a sign. We've not had a problem. I see from your link the packaging is changing our box is green you don't want he blue box.

So as long as it is Biological and not Non-Biological its fine is my understanding.

Thanks for the tip on keeping some organic fluid, i don't actually have any of that just the blue. will go out and get some.

Sorry for the questions, this is our first proper year in our motorhome, been out a couple times after picking it up end October. So im sure in the next few months will be more clued up and figure what works for us best.

I believe they now do the organic in sachets or at least easier to handle than the bottles.

I wonder if laundry tabs are allowed at those sites that ask for organic - because I have never seen them forbidding the use of Washing machine stuff unless it was eco friendly?  My septic tank seems quite happy with the tabs so I wondered.

We have always used the organic toilet fluid, much prefer the smell first off we used the non organic but soon changed. We have never been on a site that has asked for organic only at sites but like to be prepared 😆.

Yes bio tabs, never used non bio but would think it would take longer for things to breakdown?

Don't worry about asking questions we all do. On the old site this thread ran for pages and pages well into 3 figures, this thread is still in its infancy. Who knew there easy so much to discuss 😋😋

    Bakers2,

Back  at  the  turn  of  the  century  ( frown )  I  was  up  at  Culloden  C&MC  site  and  there  was  a  separate  paper  stapled  to  the  receipt  requesting  that  only  BLUE  fluid  was  used,  Green  apparently  fouled  up  ( pun   intended  innocent  )  the  local  sewage  system  !!

It's  the  only  time  I've  ever  seen  that,  Culloden  is  no  longer  adding  this  paper  so  I  assume  they've  had  an  "upgrade"  of  some  sort  !

I've just received an e-mail from "Caravansite Chatter" where there's an advert for Domestic Tabs for chemical toilets. Wonder where they got that idea from? laughing

Doubt that there'll be many takers from CT members though as they cost £9.99 at a discount price, for 16 tabs!! surprised Can't compare to the price of Aldi's or Lidl's.

We first came across tabs for campervan toilets in NZ - they weren't cheap but easy to use.  Priced them here and decided against them.  Read the original thread and tried out the bio laundry tabs and haven't looked back.

Why if the laundry tabs do the same job, at the extremely reasonable prices in Aldi, Lidl and other supermarkets, are the ones actually aimed a caravanners so madly expensive?  What do they contain to make the cost difference?  Sorry I'm not a scientist so haven't a clue how to find out surprised.  Is it like the toilet paper?  Just a way of trying to part with loads more of our hard earned cash cos it's for camping?  That is - are they a rip off?????

Not sure if this has been mentioned but I presume you can use tabs in a Motorhome waste tank rather than the expensive proprietary products like Thetford? Last year we left the waste emptying for far too long and had difficulty getting rid of the smell.

Yes  into  the  "Holding  Tank"  they  go,  But  even  at  the  low  cost  of  them  I've  never  delayed  the  emptying  of  the  tank  altho'  it  gets  fully  used.  I  do  not have  a  special  Flush  Tank  --  in  my  van  it  comes  from  the  general  water  tank,  so  I  carry  a  Half  litre  spray  bottle  with  whatever  takes  my  fancy.  Some  use  the  'pink'  stuff,  others  take  a  quantity  of  Lenor  or  some  such,  others  "Zoflora"  --  it  really  depends  on  your  nasal  sensitivity   surprised

Just  one  thing,  if  I  may  ask  you  please  not  to  use  the  term  'Tabs'  it  confuses  some  newcomers  --  It's  better  I  think  to  refer  to  them  as  " Gel  filled Bio Pods "  -  no room  for  mistakes  there  wink

ABM, I was referring to the Motorhome grey waste tank, not the wc tank. Our waste tank holds 100 litres but can get smelly if you leave it for several days.

I am a convert to Gel filled Bio Pods for toilet tank and very pleased with results. Re suggesting using in motorhome waste water assume this is where washing water etc goes. How do you get it into the enclosed tank?

M, there should be an inspection hatch on both the fresh and waste water tanks....for cleaning and 'inspection'....or even a good hose out, periodically.

just drop a gel pod into the waste tank via the inspection hatch.

Too right about the confusion  - the first time I trie I bought tabs and they are terrible all sorts of fillers etc.  eventually used them up washing the dog beds!  Gel every Time!

Ah,  Now  I  understand   embarassed !

You  can get  Waste  Tank  Cleaning  Fluids  from  most 'van  accessory  outlets  but  I  only  apply  that  if  the  'vans  not  going  to  be used  for  a  while  --  generally  I  use  a  strongish  mixture  of  hot  water  and  the  nicest,  smelliest  washing  up  liquid  I  have  available  !!  But  there  are  some  folk  who  use  and  swear  by   a  dissolved  tablet  or  two  of  the  sort  used  in  "Dish  Washing Machines"

Back  in  the  "Olden  Days"  I  believe  it  was  Hot  water,  washing  soda  and  a  fast  drive  round  Silverstone  or  similar  --  cleaned  the  tank  out  a  treat  cool

Not sure of the rights and wrongs of using these but they seem to work for us and yes they do smell better than the blue stuff which we get and also use from Aldi at a good price £4.99 for 2Lts on offer at the moment till stock run out that is.

Re waste water tanks - I have read in the past that using cheap cola works well but have no personal experience.

Cheap cola cleans the pipe work pretty amazingly so probably tanks too but no idea how much.  I bunged the end of waste pipe and filled with cola and left for a while.  Excellent result and that was after using a Mr Muscle or the like.

Well, OH just bought a bunch of bio tabs to try out. I am OK with Aquachem but the tabs will be much easier to handle. We shall see.

I do have grey waste tank cleaner for the Motorhome but it is expensive and yet another bottle to handle. I should think you could dissolve a tab in the sink and just let the water drain out into the tank.
