Dedicated area for Motorhomes on club sites..

It's good for drying a four legged companion down before they jump in to the caravan and do the 'twist and shake', when it's damp outside. Trying to dry down a dog in the rain doesn't seem to work so well 😕

We seemed to manage quite well for years.

I think the advance payment applies to all one night stays. Obviously a fair proportion of them will be for people using the Channel crossing. I suspect the reasoning behind it is that people will arrive after the office has closed so all they need to do is to post the instruction on what pitch to use on the office door. Don't know if its still the case but UK arrivals had to arrive by 8.00pm but arrivals from France could arrive at any time. What is you objection to paying in advance?

No personal problem, but there could well be some who only want a 1 night stop, but are not going on a ferry and have not booked a ferry pitch.
Why should they be asked to pay in advance, unlike on other CC sites?
What if they need to cancel after paying?
No problem with being asked to do so if arriving/leaving at unsocial hours and using a ferry pitch.

I cannot understand why the CMC doesn't insist on deposit in advance across the board (like most holiday destinations do) if you want a guaranteed slot.
It would remove an awful lot of the problems that currently exist. Do you hav an objection to paying in advance ?

Some continental sites have dedicated motorhome areas; they are hard standing and close to reception for a quicker getaway. Neither factor really applies to Club sites. Firstly I understand that most have hard standings, secondly, the idea of "touring" using Club sites in high season is laughable. How many Club sites are there where you can just turn up at 6 pm and choose a pitch? Judging by all the complaints about bookings on this forum - none.
Mororhomers like nice spacious pitches like everybody else. First come first served sounds sensible to me.

what awful lot of problems are there that you refer to?
Yes I do. See thread on this topic as to why i do, but mainly as the club says it wouldn't solve anything

Yes back of the bogs, next to the play area if possible

The vast majority are absolutely wonderful people, unfortunately there will be one or two, like as in all walks of life, who don't want to understand the ways of the community and the rules they sign up to and just want to be antagonistic. I read recently of an instance where some fellow members had been unjustifiably been called selfish just because the rules they followed to the letter, which have been around for decades, did not suit an individual. That's life, 'just don't let them get us down' as the saying goes.

It matters not a jot if you are a trailer tenter, a campervaner, a caravaner, a motorhomer, a tag axeler, an RVer, or whatever, we are all 'caravaners'. No one at all is treated differently or given favours. Book whatever length of stay you need, pay on arrival, choose pitch on arrival and enjoy the passtime alongside and with, if you wish, your fellow members.
Thankfully, that's the way it is.

interesting approach to inclusivity

But a dedicated Motorhome area with closer spacing, because they don't have cars and awnings alongside, would make more pitches available. Isn't that what a lot of people have been asking for?

can I have half price pitches then as my tiny camper doesn't take up as much room as a car caravan and awning ??

Oh, how I yearn for those good 'bad' old days! Yes, it would be idyllic but so many more of us these days, each with specific wants and needs means a little more thought and planning prior to enjoying our touring. Some restrict themselves considerably in these plans by purchasing oversized units or ones with slide outs etc, sometimes they get little or no choice of pitch, some sites cannot accommodate them at all but for the rest of us mere mortals we can choose from what ever is available on arrival. It still works to a very large degree for the many of us.

ET, I (and i suspect many who MH abroad) wouldn't mind this approach, but not at the back of the bogs or near the play area, thanks Hooker

these arent good old days, Mickey, this is how it is at many 'other places' right now.....seems to work well enough.....
still, as you say, no one will be changing anything soon (ever....)

Back in the day we found it far easier to tour, and we never really thought about it apart from bank holidays. We also utilised club sites whenever and wherever available and in Scotland never had problems at all. Today many, if not most, of the comercials now demand minimum nights stay, some 5 or 7 nights and several of the Scottish club sites in mid summer are fully booked up. It isn't as easy as it was to tour these days as we did then. Thankfully, with careful planning, it can still be done!

It certainly was easier Micky. We would book on a Thursday for Fri/Sat night at a weekend. Usually book on the Sunday morning on site to stay late or leave early next day. It was also usual when touring to be able to arrange to go on site for 11am for example - even in school hols.
The last holiday I had with my wife and daughter would have been back in 1993. We used around 15 sites over about 52 nights during school Summer hols. I booked only the Saturday nights in order to be flexible. When we moved we phoned ahead the day before and usually were able to arrange to go on site for 11am or earlier. Must have been more room on sites then as I was often able to hitch up the car the night before, empty water and waste and recharge toilet so that the next morning we could have a brew and some cereal or boiled egg and toast and get gone early.

Yes, we also would book those single nights on route at club sites, sometimes ringing up and moving the booking on a couple of nights or extending the stay or even swapping sites as was our want. Never really had issues at all that I can remember, don't think it would be as 'free' and easy today as it was then!

Oh for the space for bigger sites, and the amount of sites that are available in mainland europe to still be able to do it, as we did in the past over here, trouble is our "lifestyle" is just too popular now , and as we know from recent site closures ,with both clubs it seems, there are less pitches out there ,although if not heading for the popular areas ,it is still possible to tour in the Uk it just now needs a bit of planning and a quick phone call a couple of days ahead of next possible stop
