No Hot Water !!!

Recent "New to us" 2008 Swift Challenger ....... Not able to get any hot water !

Tried the obvious ..hooked up water carrier ..ran through onboard tank & taps before switching  on electric heater .

We don't appear to have any blown fuses/ trip , any help/advice you can give would be gratefully received.

    You say you have checked for any blown fuses, however have you checked if you are getting a 240 volt supply from the site post. For instance, if on a club site turned the plug in the bollard a quarter turn until it clicks. Also has the master trip in the van been reset, or is it still in the off position. I have managed to miss one or the other on occasions.

    Yes as Steve says check another 240V device. Also does the heater work on gas? If yes then has the thermal cut out button popped out? How long have you given it for warm the water? On our system on one setting the water doesn't heat up till the temperature in the van has reached a certain setting.

    Also is the drain plug closed? I've missed that once.

    Have you checked the 240v switch for the water heater?  Last year ours gave up; a quick and cheap repair.  Run a multimeter on heater side of switch to see if 240v is getting through.

    Still on the 'are you getting a supply' theme......check that power is coming from the bollard (it could have been tripped). Try another bollard, if possible.

    Is this the first time you have used the van after the winter drain down? If that is the case and you have checked you have 230v electrics and fuses are all OK and made the checks above it could be a air lock preventing the hot water tank filling up. This happened to me a few times with Swift vans especially getting ready for a first trip out. I found draining the system and refilling eventually got rid of the problem but you do have to get the air out of the system by running water through the taps. Usually the cold side will run OK but if there is a problem with the tank the hot side will spit and hiss which indicates a possible airlock. You could also try heating the water on gas to see if you get hot water that way. I found that once I had managed to heat the water once it was OK on subsequent occasions.

    chers, Ian....been away so long seems like the system forgot about me...had to resolve with CT/IT this morning...impressed actually.

    to the OP, If you have a Sargent PSU (power supply unit) there will be a button to press for mains heating and another for mains hot water....

    ensure these are both pressed and check the suply as previously suggested.

    does the heating work on 240v?

    Hi Folks,

    Yes we do have 240v ....everything working of mains O.K. !  I will try checking trips again, also empty and refill tank maybe !  Not able to check until weekend .
