On the 'old forum' there was a long-running thread which I started, to say Ikea sell 'Corelle look-alike' tempered glass dinner plates, side plates and bowls for just 50p per item.  They are plain white, and there are sometimes matching mugs, and just occasionally (and in some Ikea branches) there are the same tempered glass items, but with a pattern.

Lots of people bought them as an alternative to the much more expensive Corelle, and seem quite happy with the quality.

I got some plain white ones, like those ValDa mentions, for less than £1 a piece in a local discount store a few months ago.  It's worth looking around.

Does anyone buy melamine sets these days? So glad we switched to Corelle. We bought plain white too- so much easier to replace if we broke one which we haven't. Mugs are ordinary porcelain so easy to replace those.

Val, thanks to you, I bought a set too. Really pleased with them, thank you. Although I did love my gerbera melamine!

I got the Ikea crockery too, and it's been excellent. The range seems to a permanent feature in my lkea store, except for the mugs and clear cups.

Visit today saw a new style : ikea PS 2017. Large plate and soup plate with a thumb rim to stop spills! Bit dearer at 1.75/2.25, but good quality.

Although we have a set of Corelle  (bought before Val's post about the IKEA version), I shall certainly think about some of the tempered glass items next time we go to IKEA.
