We had a minor prang in a car park a couple of years ago. I did not think it my fault the other person did not think it their fault and no witnesses. I made my report to my insurer, I assume they did to theirs. When I picked up my car from being fixed I had to pay the full £300 excess. About 3 months later I recieved a cheque through the post for £150 as the accident had been only half my fault.
I would assume the same will happen with your claim. Even if the other party has admitted liability, there is a fair chance you will have to pay the full excess before getting your car back. Then the insurance company will reimburse you in due course. However, if the other party has not admitted they were at fault and there are no independent witnesses, the best you can hope for is 50%.

When I took our's in, for the airbag recall, all that they did was take a photocopy of my driving licence. Didn't even have to pay any insurance premium for the courtesy car.

Does it not depend on what type of licence you have. OH still has the old type that would show endorsements. I have the plastic photo one, that used to have a counterpart to do that. That bit is no longer valid, I thought that was the reason for contacting the DVLA, to check on what penalties you might have clocked up.

Yes, we emptied most stuff out for service, just the pots cutlery and plates etc still in it.
OH was muttering today about the need to be ruthless, so I will be checking she does the same with the kitchen stuff! We also discussed whether to take the washing machine or the breadmaker, the breadmaker lost.
We booked Harwich without any real idea of where we would go, though the Baltic coast was discussed. We have just over 8 weeks, so are now thinking to head east into Germany then south to the Italian Lakes first, it should be a bit warmer there.
Original plan was to go via Austria, but as the Arlberg Tunnel is closed, we would need to use the Fern pass, which is a bit of a detour, so now wondering whether to go via Switzerland.
Once in Italy, OH pointed out it is not too much further to Croatia and the Adriatic, but I think she is getting a bit carried away now!
Returning north will be via Austria and as far east in Germany as possible. Direct route would take us near Prague, could be interesting, but not too sure if it is a good idea.
Once at the Baltic we will return west along the coast. We spent a few days there 3 years back, but still plenty to see.
On the way back to the ferry we are meeting up with my sister-in-law in Amsterdam.
Now I have written all that down, I am wondering if we are perhaps being a bit ambitious!

The insurance company have not said that it will cost me anything so far, so I don't think I'm liable for anything on this occasion as the third party was clearly at fault and their insurance are, therefore, liable for any cost incurred as a result of this.

KjellNN that sounds like a lot but don't forget if you were to write down to to do a simple task it looks horrendous but in practice a doddle. You can always cut it short or extend as you see fit because you have your van and you don't need to book 😆. Hope that's reassured you 😉.
On the restocking the van I was 😲 to see a breadmaking mentioned 😂😂😋

Yes, we have been wandering around Europe for 3-4 months in 8 of the last 10 years on that basis and have frequently ended up somewhere completely different to where we had thought we would!
Breadmaker is great, we rarely buy bread, have been making my own for about 8 years now. However I expect we will survive without it.

Surely you started to pull out of your parking space without signalling as the third party was coming past and hence your fault Malcolm?
I was involved in an accident 25 years ago whilst returning from a site visit at work around lunchtime. I had driven around a left hand bend on a windy country road, indicated to turn right into a small motorcaravan dealership (no motorhomes then) and was commencing the turn. I was at about 45 degrees to the road and a third of the way across the opposite lane when I heard tyres somewhere behind me fighting for grip. I could not pick the car up in my mirrors at the angle and so turned the wheel hard left and accelerated hard to reduce the expected impact. The car hit my drivers door and fortunately at an angle. As it hit me the rear of my car swung out and clipped his front and saved him from hitting a large RSJ reinforced brick pillar head on, his car took out the corner of the pillar, chased a few people on the dealers forecourt and hit a motor caravan. My car mounted the kerb on my right hand side and travelled the length of a wall removing copings. The drivers seat was moved 12'' away from the door and I had to kick my way out with showers of glass.
Initially it was settled fifty/fifty. The third party said that I had turned without indicating. Also, unfortunately we had two cars at that time and the one that I was driving was not my normal one and was neither protected no claims nor insured for business use. I was contacted by the legal insurance but, as I was due to go into hospital for a cancer op followed by a month radiotherapy I said that I would take it up in a couple of months. The legal guy visited me at work later and we had a meeting, I gave him the details and a few weeks later my costs were repaid and no-claims reinstated.
Immediately after the accident I had phoned my boss to tell him to sign my leave card for the afternoon and put it in

The car that allegedly was trying to overtake would have had to start his manoeuvre before seeing me due to the bend and would not have had a hope of regaining the left of the carriageway before being half way around the next blind RH bend. There were witnesses but all too shocked after running out of the way of his car to have any memory of details. Never underestimate the power of a lie Malc.0 -
Depends if you were in the car at the time Malc, or was it parked with you out of it. In our case, in our car park incident, we were stationary after manovering out of a space and the other car reversed into me. However no witnesses, neither of us would admit fault, so 50:50. Remember, unless you have witnesses, even if the other driver admitted fault at the time, that is no guarantee he won't change his mind later.

Lovely day here in East Kent very little wind,did two crane lifts at the B/yd today.My new number plates arrived today ,so will fit them in the morning .Car going well ,it makes me smile at what it can do like 'pilot assist'(steering for you !! )also 'adaptive cruise control' ,slows the car down to the speed of a front runner.Not brave enough to try the 'park assist' yet !! Where it parks it'self between other vehicles !! Ooo Err !!

Goodness Kj, that's quite a weighty item to take but I expect you'll miss having your own bread when you leave it behind.
I hope Triky P is careful with his new car I don't think my nervous system can cope with any more insurance tales on here.....
DSB I buy Lidl paninis in bulk, I really like them and they freeze well. I get a discount for them so it's quite good all round.

Lidl does have good bread, we have one a 5 minute walk away so do buy some more "exotic" bread from them every so often......the panninis are one of our favourites too.!
It is not that heavy, I made a carry bag for it and can easily lift it with one hand, but as we need to lose about 40kg from our load, something has to go, probably even several things!
We could take much more weight in the car, but then space is the constraint.
In the caravan it is the other way round.....stacks of space, not enough weight allowance.
