I don't think that's a general thing is it? When we had our towcar serviced back in November they just took a photocopy of my licence and I had to pay a small insrance premium for the courtesy car, I think it was £2.50 from memory. Cerainly didn't involve contacting DVLA.

Don't know about courtesy car but you do for hire car. Now the paper part of the licence is no longer needed there is no record of endorsements etc. Driving groups are contained on your licence. One assumes that if you were banned from driving and claimed you'd lost your licence it would all appear fine if you handed in a card.

You would think that, but we all know how insurers hate to part with money.............
I assume this incident was not Malcolm's fault, so his insurers will be going to the other insurers looking for them to foot the bill, and Malcolm will be looking to claim for his excess etc, so the other insurer may well take a dim view of the unnecessary hire car costs.

The only explanation I can think of is that they needed to collect the car and take it to their repair shop to assess what needed doing before they ordered the parts.

Yes, it looks as though the claim would be against the third party. It must be because there is a £200 excess on my policy which they haven't asked me to pay.

Well that was interesting . 10 different school drama groups ranging in age from infants (age about 7) to biggish teenagers. They had all obviously put in a lot of work and acquitted themselves well. There were 14 in my grandson's group, some others had more some less but multiply that by 10 and by 2 for parents, carers and it was quite a gate.What was surprising was the number of very well behaved dogs watching although I don't know what they made of it. The rain held off but it got a bit nippy towards the end.
Knowing my grandson as I do I can look forward to it same time next year 😊

Your excess won't be payable until the repairs complete, and the bill is ready, so that's no reassurance. If I was you I would be being proactive asking questions of your insurers. Too late now I expect the claims department are closed until Monday. But you really do need to be very careful you aren't severely out of pocket.
Generally uninsured losses - your excess hire charges etc are up to you to claim back. Your insurance company will generally only recover their outlay 😲. Are youhave you paid for car hire yourself? Is it part of your insurance cover? If yes to the letter check the limit of hire.

Quite possibly, though usually the assessor will come out to you to inspect the car to see what needs done, or possibly they might ask you to take it to the repairer for inspection.
Then, if they need to order parts they would wait till they have them before they pick up the car.
Many years since we had a claim, but that was how it was done then.

Ferry crossing Hull to Zeebrugge, plan is travel down to the Provence area, Med coast (Cote d'azur) then up to the Alps (Annecy) we've got 8 weeks so plenty of time I think. We are not interested in sitting on a beach but would like to go and see, we've not been to these areas before.
Ferry prices this year were almost double what we paid the last time we went on that route (when we met you) not sure we will be doing that route for much longer (with trailer) but managed to get a very good price through another booking agent, the club and P&O were a joke.
It's getting close to the time for you to be off isn't it?

Interesting little problem with the X-Trail yesterday. Caravan was due in for servicing and OH was due to come with me however realised tha tshe had an appointment. As it turned out that was just as well! Pulled up with caravan outside the service office locked car and alarm went off on the car. Key fob would not work. Left it and went into office. After sorting paperwork etc the alarm had stopped, fob still not working. Could not open boot to stow towing mirrors or any door. Drivers door only operated via key. I thought problem might be a fuse or maybe some type of solenoid. Phoned a motor electronics chap known to my neighbour. He was fully booked until next week but when I told him the problem and that there was a ghost image of 'door not closed' on dash display said it was possibly a tired fuse and not uncommon. No idea which fuse as it would not be labelled as door.
Googled and found on a forum that on the 2004 X-Trail the fuse was in the inside fuse box as opposed to under the bonnet and top left fuse. The clue was if the door opening switch did not bring on interior lights. With some discomfort I accessed the fuse panel under the driver side facia. Trouble was that my head was too close for me to be able to focus. After several mins of grasping nowt with the fuse extractor managed to remove the fuse and unfortunately the fuse panel also unclipped itself. Could not be certain if it had blown - if there was a break it was small. Right replace and try. Spare fuses in boot area, do I crawl between seats to the back to drop rear seat and squirm through to find tool box and spare fuses? No. Off to local motor factor. Lad in shop could just make out a break in the fuse. Back home replace fuse and all OK. However there was no way I was going to be able to relocate the fuse panel in under an hour. It took over 5 mins to get the damned fuse in with not being able to see.
Down to local garage and the chap there refitted it for me - even he struggled.

We had a drama with a broken locker key and blown fuse last week. OH searched for spare fuses and found hidden keys in the van, we still don't what they're for! Broken key replaced swiftly on ebay for a small sum (we only had one key so ordered two.)

Way to much time to be honest, but I used to do it for a living many moons ago so did a lot of the donkey work before calling the club.
The problem we have is that the club can't/won't allow you to add a trailer to your booking, so we always have to phone up to get a price, you can check it out online with P&O first but the club should get a better price, today they didn't, in fact a few of the quotes were more than the P&O website.
Still, all done now and £200 in my back pocket for spends can't be bad
not going until the end of April as OH has hospital appointment on the 20th and I'd like to do a shakedown trip (3 days) with the van and trailer first before we go away.1 -
I was down at the garage for car service. They gave me a courtesy car only problem was courtesy car had a manual handbrake not the electronic handbrake as on my car! A bit of a kangaroo petrol moment!
Then looking at a top of the range model it looked like it had Venetian blinds! It was only the reflection of the ceiling wood cladding in the tinted windows!

Yes we are off in less than 2 weeks, have put back departure by 24 hours as I have my wood turning club meeting to attend. Saves a night on a rather expensive CC site too!
I have started sorting through and laying out "my stuff" (tools and spares), but no packing yet as we need to clean the inside of the van first. Had hoped to do the outside this week, but too wet lately.
We are trying to have a bit of a cull of stuff as we got a bit of a shock when we weighed the loaded van last year!

Where are you heading for this time? I know your trying the Harwich ferry so are you doing northern climes.
Sorting out our van has been delayed as we have been a bit busy getting a new path laid, still its done now just the garden to put back in order.
Its amazing how much rubbish you keep in the van, we had to strip it all out when it went up to Dyce for its service, so managed to have a cull then, just have to make sure we don't put it all back.
