We are planning a 5night stay in the Channel Islands in October and ideally, would like to leave our caravan parked up on a site on the mainland so that when we return, we can enjoy a few days in Dorset. Does anyone know of a site where we can safely leave our van for this length of time please?

You could try Birchwood Tourist Park near Wareham. It's not a CL but they do storage. It's very close to Hunters Moon but much nicer.

    Revellers

Can you confirm you are looking specifically for a CL? If not I will move your thread the UK Sites and Touring where more people might see it.

    Thanks

Not sure if Crossways allow this but nice site.  Which Island are you planning on going on to Guernsey or Jersey and are you going on fast ferry from Poole or slow boat via Portsmouth or flying?  I am Guernsey born and breed and have lived here all my life if you need any info let me know.

Thank you Tomorrow, Guernsey is our choice. It is our first visit to the Channel Islands and as well as exploring Guernsey, we would like to visit Herm and Sark (quite a lot to do in a 7night stay!) We are choosing the faster Poole crossing. We will be staying at the de Havelet. We like walking and hubby enjoys the military/war history. Any helpful tourist tips from a 'local' are most welcome!

Revellers that sounds great and a trip to Herm and Sark are well worth it and easy enough to fit in.  Hotel De Havelet is nice and in St Peter Port.  Not sure if you are bringing your car but if you are think Cornwall and only very small roads ie no A roads or dual carriage ways.  Max speed limit 35 and most areas 25.  Road direction signs are rubbish so do expect to get lost a lot but you will soon hit the coast and work out where you are.  If you are not bringing your car the buses are good and very reasonable.  You are about 5 min walk to the bus terminal from the hotel buses.gg .  If you interested in military war I would recommend  http://www.germanoccupationmuseum.co.uk/ and http://lavalette.tk/ and

http://www.festungguernsey.supanet.com/naval_sigs_h_q_.htm.  These are all WWII but older one you might like  http://www.museums.gov.gg/article/101089/Castle-Cornet.  If you like to walk.  The south coast cliff paths are lovely (but hilly) and are very easily  accessible from the bathing pools just down the road from the hotel.  I would also recommend paying the small additional charge on Condor Ferries for sitting in the Ocean Plus seats at the front of the ship.  Not only are the views amazing, own bar/cafe for the whole trip but the seats are much more comfortable and larger and you can book seats with tables as well. The standard area is aircraft style seating.  This is not a small ship (well not for Guernsey) but do not think of a Dover Ferry it is all on 1 floor consisting of seats, duty free shop, cafe (food you take back to your seat) and outside area.   Hope this helps let me know if you need anything else.  http://www.visitguernsey.com/
