Mine is keyless and I can't stop the engine until it is moved into 'park'.

We bought our first Auto last year and driving to Spain with the van on the back last November and back this month was a pleasure, just wish we had changed years ago.

Today I encountered another benefit I hadn't mentioned before.  Some smart Alec cut me up on a roundabout on a steep hill - no bother with an automatic.  smile

We had to switch to automatic about fifteen years ago when my left knee said enough was enough - probably too much driving and tractors in my younger days.  Four weeks ago we too delivery of our third auto car and it has a CVT.  I am intrigued having read so many negative comments about CVT.  We love it as it is so smooth and the power take up is phenomenal.  I read somewhere that the F1 governing body will not allow the race teams to use CVT because it would be an unfair advantage.

My Subaru is keyless, Dave, but I can stop the engine when not in Park although it is effectively a 'stall' and the electrickery stuff won't let it restart until it's put in Park and things are done in the right order.

Qashqai, I never believed I'd say this but my CVT is smoother and quicker on the take up than the 'proper' TC autos which I used to swear were the best.

I totally agree with Sir Chemicals last two paragraphs in every way and support him 100% in the frugal use of his handbrake!
