Moreton does indeed have some smaller pitches, I cannot remember what Cirencesters' were like. Are they all none awning? Perhaps they could be used as a trial at a lower price.
No I don't think that they are non awning but cars have to be parked across the front. Not a place to do a trial as they are all in use at peak as there is little option. I travel off peak and have had little option on Morton. I cannot remember at Cirencester either.
Your jumping to conclusions ET when you say "most would not want" You don't know that! I would like to bet with at least 30 percent of members owning motorhomes and a lower price they would not go unused.
No bigger leap of faith than your thinking 5 metre pitches would sell like hot cakes.

Peedee you may well be able to fit your MH and car on a 5 m wide pitch. However, you don't have any Aquaroll to access, and your car is probably narrower than most 4x4's. So affectively you would be making certain pitches not fit for purpose if used by a caravan. So unless MHs were banned from standard size non awning pitches, they could still pick those in preference to a 5 m wide one and a caravan would just have to shoe horn its way on.
Incidentally all the pitches at Cirencester are classified as awning. On a lot of the narrower ones you can just about fit a caravan and awning on. However the car goes in front. Far from ideal. I am sure a lot could be widened and still preserve 6 m spacing, however this would require investment.

If you start marketing pitches that are not suitable for the majority of standard size car / caravan combinations, you are hardly being inclusive. The MH owner would still be able to book any pitch on the site but those with caravans would not.

I have no problem with a little campervan using a large pitch PeeDee. I fail to see how I would have more chance of a decent pitch. By your reasoning if there were a hundred pitches on a site that were of a suitable (for me ) size: It is possibe that 3 of these might provide five 5m wide pitches. (Not many 10m wide pitches) So take out 15 of these suitable pitches and replace with twenty five 5 metre pitches and the number of pitches have gone up 10%.
However as before this 20 pitches were grass, 10 were serviced I had a choice of 70 pitches that might suit me. After the gained pitches I now only have 45 that meet my requirements. The chance of my getting a pitch that I would want has fallen drastically. Probably a site to cross off my list.

Here is an example of provision for motorhomes and it looks popular.

In many instances, it isn't the pitches that are smaller, it is more that touring outfits nowadays are just so much larger than say 20 years ago.

We are however 12 metres long including the car so would not fit. I have no problem with other providers Marketing these facilities, just not the CAMC. It is supposed to be an inclusive club. A Motorhome can use other pitch types, including service if they are prepared to pay for them. Most caravans would not fit on those pitch types, unless you were prepared to try and fit your car alongside. So effectively it is reducing the number of pitches a caravan can book in favour of Motorhomes.

The Club clearly could not implement pitches like those shown in the pictures because of the 6m fire break required. In the pictures the fire break is the grass strip and the hedge which is a separation of not much more than 2.5 meters. The club would have to increase that to 6 meters which would allow a car alongside.

I suppose you could go with 6 metres of gravel and 3 metres of grass median. This would then give adequate space (just) and least a 3 metre spacing from the car of a caravan / car combination to next unit. It would also give between 6 and 7 metres between adjacent units.

Hi GTP, If you want dedicated pitches for motorhomes, you should lobby The CMC to split the club and have dedicated sites for motorhomes and campers, us caravanners can then get on with our leisure and you and the campers can get on with theirs, no problem. This would also give the club plenty of work changing the logos to Motorhome & Camping Club and we can go back to The Caravan Club.
Think of the sales speak that they could come up with for that!!!, That really would be an exciting new journey (apart) !!!

I can think of one wonderful thing that the Club should spend money on, a "whinge-o meter" Anytime it goes "ping" as a person passes through, banish the offending specimen to some outer reach where their electric, wifi, motormover, microwave, heating, etc.... never works! Hopefully they will then go forth and not bother the rest of us enjoying ourselves ever again!
