Black Knowl
I have just been shown a seven minute video of the ongoing works at Black Knowl taken by a drone presumably for the club. I don't know how to do a link ( no doubt someone will do it for me shortly 😉) if you search Black Knowl you tube it should appear. Looking good, shame it wasn't publicised.

Video of building works is worth a viewing,I personally thought it was toilet block and reception building only.
But what is the difference between an all weather pitch and a hard standing.?
Ironically staying at Aldridge Hill (on same approach Road) later this year, and that has grass!!

Sad to see the old Black Knowl site vanish under a sea of hard standings and large facilities block. Don't think I'll want to go again, it will be the C&CC Aldridge Hill next time, it feels part of the forest and is a peaceful green alternative.

I think it will be excellent when it's finished. It was a very wet site in bad weather. No more toileting in the round I see!!!

One of the "charms" of Black Knowl was the large grass area in the middle, although this filled up in the summer there was always some green on view. Now the pitches around the edge will just look at a mass of hard standings, tarmac and a large facility building. I hope the drainage is good as this will push water out to the edge pitches in even greater volumes. It seems a bit incongruous in such a lovely forest setting but it appears this is what people want, just a car park for their vans from which they drive out each day.

The proliferation of all weather pitches(hardstands) may be will allow it to be all year, and less complaints from some quarters about soft pitches
Ps the hardstand we were on last year a Black Knowl was under water after a heavy shower and that was at the top part of the site

The site is in a very wet part of the forest which sometimes floods. We've also been on a flooded pitch at BK, the warden dug a channel to let the water out. I can only guess that more tarmac etc won't help the drainage.
The other club has the right approach with Camping in the Forest sites that blend in to the landscape of the New Forest.
The new design looks very neat and tidy, a bit like Poolsbrook with the circular centre but with less space between pitches and no doubt grass pitches in between to fill every available space.

Come to the New Forest and camp in a car park - no thanks - we will go find a nice CL.

Just viewed this and can understand all the addition hard standing pitches, the whole area is very wet.
The pitches appear to be very close and the roads on site very narrow.

We could be in danger of judging the appearance a bit too early. The cost of buying the site and the redevelopment must be massive so the Club will want to get value out of the site. Those that don't like this genre of campsite will obviously seek to go elsewhere but there will be many more that will appreciate the hardstandings and the new toilet block which has been a long time coming. The icing on the cake would be for it to be open all year but as some elements of planning in the New Forest are rather strange to say the least that might not be an option as there are vested interests that don't want to encourage visitors to that part of the UK!!! As for being crowded it will certainly be more spacious that this site I stayed on last year!!!
