Cleaning of Caravan Roof
Screwfix currently have 5 litre containers of a cleaning product called NO NONSENSE degreasing liquid in concentrated form...Has anyone used this product and can vouch for it. I believe it can be used for cleaning stubborn algae and general grime front caravan roofs. Can anyone if they gave used it and has it been any good.

Sorry you've not had any replies Scotty. I think that maybe answers your question. I haven't heard of it and like many use Fenwicks for bodywork and roof. Good luck.

I don't get too hung up on elfin safety but standing on a wet caravan roof without a fall restraint is asking for trouble. It's a hell of a long way to fall....... if it was in the work place your employer would be fined for allowing it.

I use this stuff for cleaning the caravan roof (and all the rest of the caravan).
I use it in an extending window / conservatory cleaning brush bought from here - it's for cleaning windows but it does the caravan a treat.
I put the steps / platform at the side of the caravan and can reach the full width of the caravan with this brush.

Which is Exactly why standing on a caravan roof is asking for trouble. Even using stepladders isn't ideal unless they are braced or you have someone to steady them. I too use an extending brush attachment on the hosepipe working on the lowest step of the stepladders I can manage.

I use Wet & Forget. www.wetandforget.co.uk on my motorhome, conservatory, fence, brickwork, paving slabs and mother in laws grave!
Dont use on plants and allow to dry before doggie paws walk on it. All done with my dedicated garden sprayer. I spray spring and autumn and on the motorhome all over the outside apart from the glass. Works 100% to eradicate , mould, lichen, algae, and black mould.

I was at my motorhome dealers this week and watched somebody cleaning a motorhome standing on the roof with a pressure washer. I used to stand on the roof of my Unicorn caravan. It's OK if you can stand on a dry patch but that's not easy once you get going. I nearly slipped; as we get older our coordination deteriorates but we are the last to admit it!

If the HSE saw that they would have a field day with the company. If that individual falls and breaks his back -or worse - who will fund his care and support his family? Utterly stupid action by the employee and the company directors will be charged under criminal law if anything happens.

I agree, this sort of behaviour is beyond belief.
As for the HSE, they would be looking into what risk assessments had been done, if a safe system of work was in place, was it being enforced or followed by the employee.
That doesn't take away the lives that would be affected by the accident/ incident

Don't see what the hassle is about cleaning the roof l do mine three times a year off small Ladder with padding at the top to prevent damage to the awning rail. l then use Karcher pressure washer set to low, spray shampoo on the roof leave around 3 minutes and use sponge to clean doing one side at a time spray water on low pressure hey presto clean roof, it just takes a little longer than the sides, by doing it three times a year it doesn't get too mucky. Before any one says you can't use a pressure washer on a caravan the Karcher l have has 4 settings one for spraying shampoo or muck remover one setting for spraying wood one for cars and motor homes and high power for stone surfaces l use the second on the van which is like a normal hose pipe but with better spray nozzle. l know they are expensive but mine is used all over the grounds of our property great to clean conservatory roof, look around some good deals on them l wouldn't be with out mine, by the way l am not a Karcher salesman other pressure washers available that do the same. l used to use just the hose took a little longer and of course you need something to spread the shampoo with, either way its elbow grease

I also use a pressure washer on my caravan, set to low pressure. I'm careful of where I point it. It also uses a lot less water than a standard hose pipe.
Spray on road grim detergent and rinse with the pressure washer, then soapy water applied with an extending soft brush and a final rinse off
not found any signs of water finding its way inside. And trust me, I do check!.
