Interference with satellite tv reception

I have a Roadpro satellite dome on my caravan.  This works well - that is - until anyone nearby tries to use their computer, or phone, or when the gas water heating system ignites.  Then, all reception is lost and it is difficult to tune back in.  Is there something wrong with my system or is there any equipment I can purchase to reduce this.  My receiver is a Sagem Freesat tuned in to Astra 2.

Well it sounds as if the system is not CE compliant with respect to EM shielding.

You are always going to get some electromagnetic interference, but that sounds way too excessive.

Sorry, no idea what you can do with it other than see if you can change it - is it new or is this a recent fault?

Have you tried a different tuner or a different dish to check if it is the tuner or the LNB on the dome that is causing the issue?

We have a maxview dome and although we have had a lot of problems with it, those were all to do with its auto seeking ability. Once on the satellite it is fine. Even the built in microwave, that sits almost below it, does not cause any issues. It seems a bit odd that you say it is difficult to tune back in. Once the LNB in the dome is lined up it is locked in position, so the interference should not affect its positive lock. Our freesat box only needed tuning once and then occasionally for any updates and links to the dome as soon as it locks on. If we loose signal due to a tree blowing in the wind the picture comes right back, no retuning necessary. Perhaps the problem is with the freesat box.

It has always been a problem, but difficulty in getting it to work after the interference is relatively recent.  I have been using the caravans directional aerial as this works really well.  I am more concerned at the moment as I am going abroad (for the first time!) to Ireland in July this year and have read that obtaining UK TV signals can be a problem and so may have to try out the Satellite system.  I haven't tried a different tuner or anything - I am a complete techno nerd and haven't a practical bone in my body!  I may have to get someone to have a look before we go frown.  Thanks

It sounds as though your dish is not locking onto the satellite properly? If it is being driven off track by the interference you claim, I agree with CJ. Roadpro is a reputable Company, I suggest you have a word with them because you should not be having this problem. Do you switch the tracking off once you have a signal or do you leave it on? I recommend you switch it off which may help with the problem.

Thanks peedee.  I have messaged them previously and got no response.  However it is a number of years since I had it installed.  I will give them a call and see if I get anywhere.  I don't want to spend a fortune sorting it out though, as under normal circumstances in the UK my directional aerial works just fine.  It's just annoying that I spent the best part of £1.5k for the dome and can't use it.

I have had another thought, if it is being driven off track by EMI from computers etc it could be as simple as a poor connection on the leads into your  boxes. I use the term boxes loosely because I have no idea what your set up is like but I would check all your connections betwen your Roadpro and your TV equipment.

Trees can be an issue but on most sites you can usually find an area where you can avoid them taking a compass helps, We have a RoadPro system which usually works fine, having said that I wouldn't recommend anyone to purchase a RoadPro system as they charge for software updates about £42 last time these seem to be required every year and without the update your system won't work, some other manufacturers provide the updates for free Maxview for an example.

My satellite system (not a dome) was installed by Road Pro. It was only fitted about three years ago but it has required a software update because of some changes in the signal from the satellites. I had the choice from Road Pro of doing the update myself for free or them doing it for £30 which was my choice. Not sure Road Pro can be held responsible for such changes in the way that the satellite companies align their signals? I would give them a ring and chat to Allen.
