What are you all up to

Malc you have a very nieve way of looking at the the real world, and Tescos losses were just down to them not understanding that there is only so far you can go when trying to take over the world ,and then push the opposition to the wall ,nothing to do with paying legal wages to their staff

Dinner2go get round that by contracting out work to their delivery drivers who accordingly run their own business in which dinner2go are their customer.

They are not the only company that are world enterprises, what about Macdonalds and KFC? I don't think there's a single country in the world that doesn't have a Macdonalds or KFC in it! I'm not sure how Tesco compares with them! Take China, for example, there's a Tesco in Beijing but there's a Macdonalds in nearly every town and city all over China! Why is global playing all to do with American companies and not British companies? Why can't fish and chips become a global brand?

I think today that there are far more serious issues to deal with and think about.

That is their problem and it's not for workers to subsidise them.
You're trying to wind us up again, Malcolm.

Minimum wage jobs are the easiest to get as there are a lot of them. It is the well paid jobs that are hard to get.
Look at how many well qualified graduates end up taking minimum wage jobs just to get a foot on the ladder.
As HD said, employers must pay the minimum wage or risk being had up in court. If they are short of cash they either borrow, economise, or reduce staff and expect the remaining employees to be more productive.
Small business owners, like HD, work long hours themselves as they are truly self employed, this keeps costs down but is not an easy life. OH's parents were in retail so we know all about how tough it can be.

Well shall we start a new day with a new discussion? Has anyone any ideas?

Lots of rain overnight here hope it did 20 miles up the road. Truly R&R as I'm checking out the day on here from my bed. Reading news as I can't bear to listen 😢. Thought something on this thread might inspire me for my day. Unfortunately it's dejavu. Enjoy you day folks I'm relaxing 😉.

She's well chuffed plenty if brownie points a lots of no pay hours 😉😉. Cleaner in yesterday and cleaned inside of bedroom windows all 5 five of them along with mirrors allegedly in 15 minutes 😲.
Wow wind getting up here.

Gosh I wish I could clean windows (thoroughly ) that quickly bakers2 .
Sadly I don't have my Mum anymore so can I say how I would like to be treated on Mothers Day? I would just like to see all my children and their families. Unfortunately I won't see youngest son in N.Ireland but I am sure he will ring. A few flowers might be nice as well.
I hope the weather picks up soon for you bakers2. Looking at the weather forecast I think it is supposed to be getting gradually better over the next few days. We are hoping for a better day on Saturday so that we can go and clean the caravan at long last.
I rang my cousin who lives in Bournemouth last night. I felt the need to be in touch with her after the terrible news from Westminster.

Had an e-mail back from Waitrose Customer Services re the free tea/coffee in their cafe's. All they seem to have done is make the free drink conditional on a purchase of an unspecified amount. So my concern about the sit down cafe was unfounded as that has not changed in that for some time there has been a requirement to buy an item of food to go with the free drink. Looking forward to my coffee before we do our shopping today.

My daughter came up last weekend (school reunion) and brought me a Mother's Day present - a trough of plants (done by her), with neat little solar powered lights.
When she was at home she always bought flowers the week before - at a sensible not inflated price.
Last year she sent me a bottle of Gin!

David, I thought you had to make a purchase before you can get your free coffee? That is what some people are unhappy about it seems. It appears that some people like to drink their coffee while doing their shopping.

Wish I could make all that bold but just getting it to post on my phone is a mission.😣
Exactly milliehull I rest my case. Took me a sight longer to clean the motorhome ones 😂😂
When are you off?
I'd love to have my family altogether been more than 4 years since we were all in the same country. Not complaining I reckon I get more from my daughter than others who's offspring lives nearer. She's suffering as youngest not slept for months and I can't do anything to help. However she has seen the homeopath AT LAST and had one better night after cranial massage let's hope tonight's the same 🙄. Son is OK and inly 1.5 hours away but a boy so communication 😉 once a week is fine.

We have never bothered too much about MD or FD to be honest, but we do make a really special effort for birthdays and Christmas. As they get older it does get more difficult to find useful and nice things that will be used. Luckily Mum and I have always shared a love of gardening, so plants, seeds, new tools, and now she is no longer able to do much for herself, I arrange to have her garden looked after, if I cannot do it. Dad is much harder to think about. His attention span is poor now, but he always enjoys a run out in car, even if he sleeps through most of trip!

Hopefully you will have all your family together for your son's wedding Bakers2 I feel for your daughter. Mine were usually good sleepers apart from when teething or unwell but I had friends who had children who were very poor sleepers and they looked like zombies (the parents) most of the time. Our N.Ireland grand-daughter slept but always started the day at 5.00am. Poor DIL felt as though she had done a days work by the time everyone else got up. I hope your daughter gets some more sleep soon.
We are off to Houghton Mill a week on Sunday.

A lovely idea to do something for your Mum on Mothers Day Tda such as you doing the gardening and Bakers2 spring cleaning and gardening. I think it means so much more.

I won't be around for Mother's Day it's not something I have as a special day as my Mum is the one we usually celebrate it with and this year I am having a break from routine.
Just now it's very wet and windy in Devon. We've been over to Dartmouth on the ferry. A bit choppy on the pontoon. We watched some men getting their ocean going yacht ready, rather them than me today!

Milliehull I have to say she is getting a taste of her own medicine but probably worse!
We won't be at home this year for mothers day. Always celebrated but more from the church service as we grew up. I think it's all very commercialised these days to with Boots advert for extra points on a £50 spend 😲.
Gloriously sunny here but the wind has really got up again. Lovely walk into Burnham on Crouch itself and lunch out. Walked past the rowing boat used to row across the Atlantic which was built locally. It's TINY 😲. I'll try to post a photo. If it doesn't appear you'll know I wasn't successful 😂

If you have a coffee in one of the cafe's, as opposed to just getting one at the machine at the service desk, you have been required to make a purchase from the cafe food counter for some time now, can't remember exactly when that changed. Until now you have been able to get a free coffee from the service desk machine by just showing your MyWaitrose card and no purchase required. The change that has just been announced is that if you wish to continue to get a free coffee from the self service machine you first have to buy something through the main tills where you then collect a cup. So in effect both systems now require a purchase although no minimum spend has been specified.

I cannot post a photo from my phone despite your clear instructions milliehull. I have no kb listing on edit and done the smallest ratio only to get the must be under 500kb message. Soooo frustrating. You'll just have to believe me on the size of the row boat 😟
