Our phone and broadband is no more than £24 a month for unlimited broadband, any time calls to most numbers and free calls to mobiles (500 mins). Our two mobiles are also under £30 a year for both together.

OH's phone and my spare phone were £10 each flip tops and I also have the same for my use but was more expensive at £12.50

Strangely when I bought two of them they were sold as locked to EE in one high street store but in the EE shop they were unlocked?

You don't need a mobile phone for an App, hence why my post said 'device' tongue-out Particularly as some CC / camc / wotever sites are in signal blackspots for mobiles.

The 'connected' new adventurers will be horrified at no connection, the old adventurers, like the 'middle aged' (i.e. me tongue-out ) will probably have prepared by having a print out of the booking ready to scan the code, or have saved it on a device in order to show it to a scanner.

Or horror of horrors the CC / camc / wotever will incorporate a 'smart' membership card that will have an identifying barcode / QR code / wotever that when presented at the barrier will recognise who, what, when and why you are presenting it!!! tongue-out  Technology is already in use in oyster travel cards, swipe debit / credit cards etc, just a quick step to drag the CC / camc / wotever screaming and kicking into modernity to meet the aspirations of the new adventurers that haven't been met at the barrier, yet tongue-out

I do like the idea of loading the bookings onto the membership card, or identifying them on the system from the card scan.  Would suit the book ahead members and the "turn up on chance" people would get the office to themselves.

Most importantly it would once and for all kill the myth that "some" members make multiple bookings for the same date so they can pick and choose which they utilise. They can't be in two palces at once after all, and proper payment would have been taken from their card at 72 hours in advance.

Many Wardens have been doing it since Adam were a lad. Ideal for sites where Q's back onto a main road. Also takes the heat out of booking in at the office.

Agreed it was a great service at Rowntree, I guess they know there will be lots turning up around the certain times and wait near the barrier, plenty of cover nearby if it is raining.

On the subject that not everyone has a suitable mobile device. If the facility of checking in using one was available, I would imagine most would avail themselves of the facility. Reasonably priced options are available.

It is a bit like us going to France and getting an autoroute tag. Why wouldn't you, it will make it so much quicker and easier.
