We have a Swift Challenger Sport 4 berth, about the same weight 1500kg. Although it is not our main tug, we were without the usual one last year and took a 3 week tour of Devon and Cornwall towing with the wife's C220 estate. The car performed very well towed well and not much different from the Range Rover in most areas.

Fuel consumption was about 28mpg towing which is slightly better. Coped very well with the driving conditions.

The only 2 things that were noticeable were the effect of large lorries passing as the car is much lighter than the RR and the ride was a little more bouncy, which was fixed by putting the car in to sport mode to stiffen up the suspension.

Otherwise a capable tow car. The older versions may not have the Custom driver settings as ours, so depends on what year you are looking at.

We have a c220 sport estate and Sterling elite diamond 480 - 1460kg max.

We spend 2 months each year touring the continent as well as numerous UK trips.  We find it is a great tow car providing tyres are inflated to max and heavy gear such as the awning are loaded into the car.   Nose weight is also critical at 75kg.

    Hope that helps.

My experience of buying a Mercedes is that no two cars are a like in respect of specification, so you need to check what each car has .... obviously self levelling suspension would be good for a tow car. I also agree with David re an E Class & my choice would be an E350 ..... a tow car should have more cylinders than doors. wink

Be aware that the C Class has a nose weight limit of only 75 kg.  I can get my 2016 Rimini down to that but I don't know about Cadiz weights.

My 2010 C220 Cdi estate tows 1,450 kg's very well up to 90 KPH.  Stick with the trucks and you should be OK.  Overtaking them however can start a snake problem.  I am currently using standard 91V rated tyres but intend to switch to 94V reinforced tyres next time to see if this improves the handling.  My car has a manual gearbox and when towing I get between 30 to 34 MPG depending on temperature and wind conditions.  The 2011 onwards models with 7 speed auto box should give similar consumption figures.
