Carwow Car Broker
I have started this thread on the advice of Rochelle as one made a couple of weeks ago has 'technical' issues.
Members considering a new vehicle may wish to take a look at car brokers. The type that I have used are those were all the financial dealings are with the dealer, not the broker, neither involved a fee payable to the broker and you are the first registered owner.
When we started to look around last September I was unaware of CARWOW, last car was through a company called Drive The Deal, but having found their website one big advantage was that you drew up the spec and they sent you a list of dealers who could fulfill this order.
This means that you can choose not only a price but a location that suits you.
Our nearest dealer was offering an 8% discount but the best, offering 13.9% was 300 miles away. However, that dealer was only a 15-20 minute drive from our daughters so was ideal for us as that meant no issues with pick up etc.
The service from CARWOW and the dealer has been very good, unlike the selling of the old car but that's another post, and having now had two new cars with this method, via a broker, would certainly recommend that others have a look at it.
Since 'finding' then via a Google search last September I am now seeing prime time TV ads for them so thought it might help to give a personal perspective.

I have had quotes via Carwow and they are good value. Armed with 3 of their quotes I saw my local dealer who also does Carwow and he bettered all of them so I bought the car from my local dealer. If you use Carwow it can often serve as a good bargaining point to get a better deal and locally. Of course if the local dealer won't play ball you can always find one as you move away from your local one but this may be only 20 miles away with the bigger main dealers.

Hi pagan, I tried that and the dealer said that he could not get even close to my best offer but, as they are the only dealer in the whole county perhaps they are not under as much pressure to achieve sales by discounting prices.

I too bought via Carwow. My Hyundai Santa Fe dropped from about £38k to under £32k - well pleased. I used the best quote (actually not only for the new car but also for the p/x value for my Volvo), to drive the deal with my local dealer.
I was told by a dealer that the way it works is that a participating dealer's first response to an enquiry is automated, in that their price offer is what they have set up to sell at to a carwow enquiry. At that point, they do not know who you are, so there can be no irritating follow up contacts. As soon as you go back to them, either by email (within carwow) or by phone, they obviously get your details.
an individual dealers pricing is, I guess, driven by their stock levels and attitude to volume sales.
i found it useful not just for the pricing, but also to save a lot of legwork phoning or visiting individual dealers.

I think that the month and part of the month can play a part in what you can get a deal for. As dealers get bonuses for amount of sales in a month they are usually more open to haggle if it is getting to the end of the month and their sales are low or when a change of registration is due. As Iantg says carwow are very handy to get a good price. If you want a BMW though ,they have stopped their dealers using Carwow. I believe this is to keep prices High but I think they lose sales because of this. Personally I'm not a fan of them so it didn't matter.

For a number of reasons we chose to order the last of the old shape Audi Q5, one being that my research included looking at stock cars and showed that there were no savings to be made over ordering what we wanted.
If you are prepared to get a stock car then maybe, as pagan says, there are deals to be done.
In regard to P/X I asked 4 dealers but, as I expected, the discounts dropped to a level that was not attractive so I then asked the dealer that had serviced my car since new if they would buy it and their response was that they offer the same price as We Buy Any Car.
I managed to get a better deal by going to Car Shop and found then very good to deal with compared with others that I visited.

I'm very happy to have used carwow for the new tow car I'm getting on Saturday.
My last 3 cars have all been the same marque, from 3 different dealers in the area, but never the local dealership where they have serviced all 3 over the past 12 years. I mentioned to the dealer principle over the tow bar episode that I'd buy my next car from them if they answered my enquiry, that was why they'd not made a sale before.
Things move on. When my current car was 6 months from the end of it's contract the selling dealer contacted me to look at options when the contract was up. I said I'd wait till nearer the time so contact me in 3 months. They did. I went to see them and the prospective new car. They offered a reasonable deal. I'm not interested in p/x or specials, I have a monthly budget that suits me and want a car that gives me the best survivability given I often commute big distances. Hence my penchant for big Mercs. The dealer gave me a good offer for a new car, but I didn't push the button at that time.
MB Finance called a bit later and mentioned I could extend the current contract. That gave me time to shop around.
I went on carwow and 2 other similar sites. Carwow showed the lowest from a dealer in South Wales. Also my local dealer. I registered an enquiry with my local dealer specific carlow team. Was invited to take a day long test drive, collect from the local dealer, drive where you like, just bring the car back when ready. Then see if it meets needs. Took the family out, travelled my wife's commute journey, went up the motorways, put bags in the boot. Returned the car had a chat about the best deal and spec'd the car. It is a new build so took a few weeks. Has the factory fitted electric operated towbar. The lowest carwow price was bettered giving 18% off list. I extended the current car right up to change over. Get 7 days free insurance to facilitate transfer of insurance and registration of the car.
Transferred my personal registration earlier this week so the new car will be registered with it first time. Collection before the April 1 VED hike.
Saturday morning 09:00 the dealer will collect me from home, take me to the dealership. Go through the car and systems, sign the paperwork and drive it home. Very simple and painless process.
Excited or wot?
The current car goes back, and as I've paid more than half the cost I walk away.
I normally pay the car off and go on for a fair few years before getting a new car, but this deal has been too good to miss as it were. A brand spankers car to my spec with lots of toys and factory fit tow bar in the colour I want, Time was not of the essence, other than to beat the VED, that I didn't know about until after the order was placed. A happy customer

As Keysher says ,for some people it works out that you can get a new car at the monthly cost you are happy with. This means you have at least a 3 year warranty and as in my case 3 years free servicing and 1st years road tax paid etc. You get the latest technology/engine . I know there are many people like to buy used and save lots of money, but not everyone likes the idea of having a car which could be trouble and you have to pay to fix . Also if a lot of people didn't buy new then there wouldn't be any used cars for others to buy. I think the figure is around 70% or more of new cars are bought using PCP deals. With regard to new cars you also tend to find the dealer finance is cheaper and there are monetary incentives to lessen the price as well as the dealer discounts. As I say it is everybody's choice as to how they fund a replacement vehicle and I respect that but my preference is new as of this last vehicle .Carwow offer a good service and for those people who are not good at haggling it is an instant discount without the hassle.
