It is not run by CC. It is a commercial site affiliated to the club. Booking is direct with the site

I think (trying to remember a conversation with the warden), that they have a closure for part of the winter.

We was thinking about going for easter, but assumed there'd be somewhere to book, I do like the thoughts of the dark skies

We stayed there last year for 5 nights over August Bank Hol. Seem to remember that it was in Feb before we could book. The wardens I think disappear on hols during shut down of the touring site. There was talk of running down the touring site and providing more lodges according to the warden.

You'd just think there'd be somewhere to book or at least some information when you can?

Isn't the site a forestry one from memory? The touring site appears to be something that the owners are not particularly concerned with and the running seemed very much left to the warden.

The location is good. Much of the site is far to shaded for my liking all but for a dozen pitches. Mine was one of these. We thoroughly enjoyed 6 days in the area

OH reminded me that we talked to somebody running the bird of prey centre and also somebody at the pub/restaurant and both were unhappy that there was a prospect of caravan tourers disappearing. They both reckoned that despite the numerous cabins on the area a lot of their trade came from caravanners. We ate twice I think at a late lunch time in the 6 days that we were there and had a snacky evening meal later. Also the shop by the lake did some nice bread baps/batches that we used to make some burgers with a salad and for something else.

The bird of prey was good value and well worth getting in early in the day. We watched a flying display, had a half hour break for a cheap coffee and an icecream and watched the next. Excellent and particularly enjoyed the pelicans

We do fancy Kielder, it's just been still working with kids at school, we tend to have to plan things, so would be good to be able to know if there's spaces etc

There are two campsites, one run by villagers, the other by Northunbria Water.

    http://visitkielder.com

Www.kieldercampsite.co.uk owned, I think, by forestry commision. Tents, 'vans, pods, etc.

    Bad news here I think.

Just phoned up this morning (after being advised to call Mid March) that the Kielder Waterside Caravan Park is only accepting seasonal pitches this year.  After asking when this decision was made, I was advised 2 weeks ago.

The Club webpage for this site needs deleting/updating, and dare I say the "affiliated" status of it needs removing.  How can an affiliated site NOT accept tourers?

At the end of the day it's a private "for profit" site so they can do what they like.  I'm disappointed however that their licence to trade from the relevant local authority does not oblige them to provide touring pitches as part of their set up
