With the small amount of gas that a hob uses I would personally not have bothered to change.

I know Calor is fairly expensive, but when we had a caravan we only used about £20 worth a year, now we have an underfloor tank we still use about £20 per year but we go away for many more nights... Just to put it in perspective, we spend much more than that per year on Elsan fluid and a great deal more on diesel.. I don't see gas as a huge expense in the grand scheme of things....undecided

The conversion costs?  And aren't you up the creek if the power is lost on a site?  It wouldn't suit me but that's the diversity of the Club.

We use very little gas, hob only, and a cylinder lasts over 18 months going away for about 12 weeks a year, we also use the Cadac as much as possible.  Tend to stay on EHU sites and run everything else on power.  But as said if power fails what then?  This has happened a number of times on the continent on low amp supplies and we have been glad to be able to switch fridge to gas.  Good luck.

We use hob and occassionally the oven and grill and still don't use much gas. Seems to last an absolute age One 3.9kg propane probably lasts two years!

We used the hob but do have one of the rings that is electric. We use the grill and occasionally the oven. We carry two 3.9kg calor propane. In 120+ nights we use less than 6kg. So may be £25 a year. WE have also experienced power cuts an glad of gas back up

Maybe it is expensive in your country but we have had a 6kg propane on for 18mths with over 170 nights away and its still going so for what we use we will stick with itwink

Induction hob - have you also had to buy new pans?

We had to at home, the nice copper bottom ones didn't work and the full set of new one cost more than the hob!

    (a) electricity is not free!!!!never has, never will be!We are all paying for your use of electricity in ever increasing site fees!!!!(b)you will find that your room heater is much more efficient if you use gas to warm the caravan first!(c) as mentioned previously....site electricity can be subject to power cuts/reduction.(d) the morning cuppa is much quicker on gas! Enjoy!!!!!!!!

I don't understand all this fuss over the price of electricity and gas.  We love the time spent in the caravan.  When you take into account the capital cost of the van and a suitable tow car, if you didn't have one in the first place, why penny pinch over a few quid on energy?

We have just spent three and a half months in Spain and can I say you defiantly need gas. Spanish campsite lecy is very expensive when you go over the limit but GPL very cheap still.......about the only thing that is.

We have just returned from a trip during which our electric water heater stopped working, it was a simple matter to switch over to gas so I was very happy to have dual power supplies.

Will trying to sell a caravan with the gas appliances reduce its value. I personally would not buy one without gas.

Did Swift produce an all electric caravan a few years ago and drop it??

I might buy all electric ............ but only at a very reduced price.

Personally wouldn't want a van with no gas, it is useful to have the flexibility. Plus, we use a Cl a lot when I am on the footplate at Llangollen, and there is no electric hook-up available.

I do however think the Competition Commission should take Calor Gas to task - £25 for a 6kg lightweight propane bottle, when I can get a 47Kg one for less than £50 - we are being ripped off here!!!

I was thinking 'outside the box'  (and I don't mean the locker)... but that's probably not allowed on here! wink.

We run mainly on electricity these days and the gas lasts over a year. The usage is so low we do not take a note of the exact life.

I have seen the 47kg cylinders outside the box in club sites but perhaps the neighbours might complain undecided  But is it allowed?
