Tonight after milking we sat out on the patio for a glass (or two) of wine. Admittedly I was wearing a cardigan, fleece and scarf, but it was a wonderful way to wind down and end the week.
We listened to a couple of noisy robins and watched Jupiter get brighter in the sky. The full moon was the other side of the house.

Yes we have met the new puppy and she is seriously adorable. I will try and post a photo tomorrow. Son, grandsons or puppy getting most attention mmm.... We made the decision not to have another dog but she is definitely the next best thing.

We had a day off doing things today and instead visited our son and family in Ayrshire. Picked up our daughter who decided to tag along, and went armed with home made soup as our contribution to lunch.
Got to discussing the Council Tax and discovered that their large 5 bedroom farmhouse, with several outbuildings and 20 acres of land is only in band F, while we are in H.
Our daughter's 4 bedroom terraced townhouse in Glasgow, with half postage stamp garden is also in band F, so there seems little consistency in the bandings. Son will be paying almost £1000 less than us.
Our band H seems to equate to band G in England if we deduct the water and sewage charges.

The problem with using a torch, EasyT is that you have to hold it with one hand so that you only have one hand free to do some necessary work that requires two hands!

Even if it's £1000 less, it's still a lot to pay! I wouldn't be able to afford it on my earnings! So no property for me! Well I suppose owning a caravan is a type of property but what I mean is no bricks and mortar! I can do without those kind of bills!

We found out a couple of years ago that one of the same houses in our street was in a council tax band lower. Got the council to check, they had to lower ours and others band down and refund the over payments made since we moved in. It's worth checking, as you say no consistancy.

We applied some years ago to have our Council Tax band checked and they lowered it. As you say Helen it is always worth checking.

Glorious morning here hubby continuing with decorating the little bedroom, I'm surplus to requirements now we have moved the furniture. Just the wardrobe to shunt around as too big to take out. Debating in a new carpet, nothing wrong with existing but it doesn't tuck completely understand the door tread. Maybe hubby can tweak.
Have had our council tax in up £3 a month which I didn't think was bad. Was interested in their sums setting out changes county council 0% adult social care 3% fire 2% police 3.3% city council 2.5% total annual charge change 2 9%. I make individual charges 10.8% oh well well continue to make our payments as advised over 10 months. Water and sewage have both increased but only by just less and just over a pound each. We are a band D property and everything based on rateable value. So personally no complaints.
I have done sums, a few years before, and staying on a club site is more expensive than our rates and council tax 😃. It was something good we were considering whilst thinking about living arrangements with daughter in nz. We would then not have a property and motorhome would decline in value and need replacing.

Malc......if on a low income and savings under a certain amount, you can get Council Tax Benefit (I think that is what it is called) so you would pay much less than the full amount.
Presumably you would only want/need a fairly modest residence so your bill would be nothing like ours to start with.
We do enjoy being away in the van, especially seeing new places, but we are strictly fair weather campers, could never stay in the van all year on a permanent basis.
We know we could downsize and save a chunk on bills, but with legal costs, removal costs and especially stamp duty, which is also much higher up here, it would take several years before we got any real saving. We also cannot be bothered with the upheaval.
So we have elected to stay, and moan about the CT!
Fortunately I have a fairly decent pension, and we have savings, so can afford it meantime, but that does not mean it is a fair or reasonable system.

Lovely sunny day in East Norfolk. So far loaded car and gone to the dump (no cost) called in at Lidl's and pick up some tabs. Took car in to be valeted. Now sat in the garden sipping coffee and listening to a Dunnock singing its beautiful song not 10 feet from us. Down to earth with a bump shortly as more fence painting required

The houses of a similar size and value to ours are all in the same band, so nothing to be done there.
We did however help our daughter to get a reduced band on the rather small flat she lived in in the West End of Glasgow some 13 years back. All the flats had been banded F, but hers was considerably smaller than the others so she got it reduced to E.
Rediculous now to think that it was in the same band as her current 4 bed house! The flat is about half of the floor area, if that.
No benefit to her at the time as she was a student, but she did stay there 2 years after graduating, so it helped then. Also, the couple who owned it before her got a refund, without having to lift a finger!
