Caravan signaling warning buzzer/light

I have just had an Alko tow bar fitted to my new KIA Sorento by a KIA dealer. When I hook the caravan to the car there is no audible or visual warning when I put the trafficator on like in my previous cars. The dealer tells me that new regulations do not require this and I will only hear a warning if there is an electrical failure. Could you clarify please and assure me that I am legal?

Many thanks.

Mohamed ( new comer).

I believe that the requirement is that there is a warning if the caravan indicators are NOT working, and this can be achieved by a dashboard warning with a correct installation on modern cars.

(I do rather prefer the comforting bleep that I get with my simple wiring on my old Mondeo smile).

Induce a fault & see what happens. Vicmallows is correct, as long as you are made aware that you've a failed indicator, that's sufficient. My car does a double click with a failed indicator ...... a buzzer would drive me insane.

It is the same on my Santa Fe. Just remove one of the bulbs and the car indicator warning light will speed up as per the warning when an indicator  bulb goes when you are solo.

Just passed MOT so should be legal but I beg to be corrected.

Don't know if it's common to all new cars but with my VW Touareg not only does it double the flash rate if there is a bulb out, but there is also a message on the dashboard telling you which bulb has failed. No warning sound at all.

Must admit I miss the sound of the caravan lights blinking now that the new car doesn't do it.

As suggested remove a van indicator bulb and see if your car system picks it up
