Hi I  want a television that I can use on the 12 volt system , I have a Bailey Unicorn Cadiz which has a solar panel on the roof  . I have been told that the  Avtec  television range would be suitable.Has any member got one of these telivisions  and would they recommend it.Thank you in anticipation.

    If there was a useable search facility you'd see previous comments re 12 volt tellys. Avetex are expensive for what they are. Many, but not all, 'normal' mains tellys are in fact powered via 240v to 12v transformers, so if you have a look at tellys in Tesco etc you stand a good chance of finding what you want there. you then just need a suitable power supply cable

    We always use EHU, but the £130 flatscreen with integral DVD we bought  for our last van could be used on 12 volt if required.

    When we replaced the van, Bailey Unicorns were coming complete with Avtec TV. Not sure I would have bought one otherwise, as they are expensive. However having used one for the last 3 years, I would replace it with another if it failed. The picture quality is excellent, even from viewing angles quite far to the side or below. It is also able to show Channels in HD, when available, which not all of the smaller TVs are capable off.

    So it really depends on what you want to spend just over £100 or round about £300.

    Our van had an Avtex in it when we bought it. The Avtex is overpriced in my opinion and I wouldn't replace it with another. MM's got it right.

    I have an Avtex TV Combi and it's excellent, beautiful picture. I wanted one with a built in satellite receiver as well as the normal digital tuner. It really depends on your budget.

    I like my Avtex but if I had to save money that might be the thing I did without.  It is very easy though and built for touring.

    Avtex have a couple of advantages in that they tend to have a lower consumption than many alternative brands which might be beneficial when not on EHU. The other is that they include Easy Find software which helps you align a sat dish with its red/green light indicator. Other than that as said above they are expensive. My 18" Avtex has a slightly yellow tint which I cannot entirely eliminate through the picture settings. I doubt I would spend the extra money i.e. £400 5yrs back when there are similar sized tvs for less than half the price. You have to weigh up if the features are essential to you planned usage.
