I am a brand new starter to caravan touring and have just purchased a secondhand caravan. The model is a Abbey GTI Vogue 416 tourer (4 berth) with a MTPLM of 1429 kg and I am seeking advice on which towing car to purchase.I will be buying secondhand with a top budget of £5000 ,any suggestions on a both safe and efficient choice of vehicle.

Hi there, to start off discussions - what licence so you have? is it post-97 - as you'll have weight restrictions to watch out for.

Regarding the vehicle was you thinking Saloon, Estate, MPV, 4x4..? what else will the car be used for?

Agree with MHG, your post is simply too vague to get helpful answers. There are dozens of suitable vehicles which will tow your caravan even within your budget ranging from a convertible Audi to a Jaguar XJ via Landrover Defender.....

We tow with a Hyundai Tuscon 2ltr diesel, find it ideal.

Have a look on the Practical Caravan Forum load's of review's on there.

Many thanks for your prompt replies much appreciated.I have a pre 1997 LICENCE with regards to weight restrictions. We already have an Honda Jazz which my wife uses as a community social carer,so we require a towcar  which I will use ideally for social driving in between towing.Main requirement is high driver position, economy ,road tax ,budget less than £5000,Would prefer saloon but what about Nissan Xtrail,Volkswagen Tourane s 1.9 TDI PD 105.I do not want too much do I !!
