Sorry Magnet, but I prefer for safety reasons to keep both hands on the steering wheel and see so many units going the other way now (as opposed to in the 70s) that I would get muscle ache as a result.

Smile I can do, but will you see it?

Why has a 5 year old thread been resurrected?

This site suddenly flipped back to an ancient page and this thread seems to have been brought to the fore because RF responded to the old OP.

Maybe the thread would be better locked?

So, if people say they keep both hands on the steering wheel ,how do they change gear, turn the radio up ,turn headlights on ,or pick their nose ??wink

it would be interesting to know how many accidents are caused by people waving surprised

That would be against your safety? Then I do not recommend it. Be safe.

It's not taking your hand of the wheel to wave that's the problem - it's looking around to see if some one is waving to you.

I blame the AA for starting this 'waving' malarkey 110 years ago.

Are there are posts referring to the salute on here from that era - or just this long forgotten thread?

Not enough hands to wave, got a drink in one and a sandwich in the other.

A few weeks ago a women driver coming the other way to me had a phone in one hand and a fag in the other - irresponsible and stupid drivers abound on our roads.

Why is there never a Policeman/woman when you want one?

I remember the days of waving but I am afraid it would be rather often these days - I would settle for a Happy Smile on site which seems to be too rare!

I remember the days when one did not wave - one stopped and had a conversation at the passing place. As a small child trying to explain the adult world to myself I though it was where one passed the time of day!
