hello, we have a new Baileys caravan which is due a service, which is on finance. I rang the local dealer who said they were totally booked with their regular customers and we have to take it back to the dealer we bought it from, which is okay but they are 1 hour 45 minutes away. Does it have to be serviced by a Baileys dealer? There is a chap that worked at the Baileys dealership that does services and also heard about Caravan Club approved ones that come to your house and service on the drive? Can anyone throw light on this, thank you.

I took my caravan back to the supplying dealer for it's first service, to put a few problems right under warranty, which is his responsibility, he also found another problem, so that was put right as well, he had it for 8 weeks. Any approved service engineer can do the servicing, but then it has to go back to the supplying dealer for any warranty work.

Servicing can be done at any ncc approved workshop. best to buy local as you don't have as far to  travel for warranty work

In theory you should be able to take to any Bailey dealer, but often in practice this is never the case for the reasons you've already had explained.

An NCC workshop will do you a service but for warranty some manufacturers will insist on the caravan going into one of their dealerships.

Some NCC Approved service centre can do warranty work, the one we use in South Yorkshire has just completed warranty work on our Lunar ,they said that they did work for Bailey Swift Elddis and Alko.

From the FAQ on Bailey's website:

Our leisure vehicles can be serviced by any Bailey approved retailer, any Bailey approved service centre or by any agent with membership of the NCC’s approved workshop scheme (AWS).

We have had our Bailey caravan serviced by a local approved independent service centre since we've had it.They also carried our repairs under warranty too, no problems .

We used a mobile chap for our last 3 services from the AWS. And saved at least £50 each time for a better service than a dealer.

Its better because the service can be seen to be done, not legibly done behind a closed door out of sight.

Basically warranty work is paid at a lower rate than the dealer charges customers so any firm that is very busy will not want this where the caravan was bought elsewhere. It is up to the firms concerned if they will do it. If you buy from a remote dealer check what if any facilities they have for work in your area.

NCC approved work shops use a mobile one and you wont need to travel

Thank you for all the advice, it's a big help! I shall go and have a look at the links and look for NCC, I like the sound of NCC approved mobile work shops!

We have just had our latest Bailey c/van first service done at the dealer we bought it from ,as a couple of things needed looking at under warranty, but as they are only 6miles away from us and 3miles from where it is stored,we tend to use them, and the men who work on them have been there for years and we have not had any problems,

I watched a mobile ncc service being done at our storage, and i was talking to the c/van owner, and he was quite obliviose to the fact the "engineer" had it lifted with a trolley jack under a chassis member just in front of the wheel he had offsurprised

Not quite sure how you'd  lift a caravan any differently undecided

I have always used either the chassis plate under the chassis more or less behind the wheel or the axle tube close to the wheel. I have no intention of jacking a caravan these days for physical reasons but if I was likely to I would fit an Alko jacking point for easier access.

I would not use the chassis member otherwise and indeed Alko state not to do so
