Four years ago I bought a new car via a broker called Drive The Deal and got 10.9% discount.

Have just got a car via CARWOW and got 13.9% discount. All the financial transactions are with the dealer and with CARWOW I received a list dealers who could supply my spec vehicle and the discount they would give.

If looking for a new car it is worthwhile seeing what they can do.

I did get prices from Carwow but the local dealer did better so bought from them. But I agree Carwow have some really good deals and there is usually a garage local to quote and when you have the other quotes just go to the local garage and get a better price. If you want a BMW however then you can't use Carwow as BMW have forbidden their dealers from quoting on it which was no skin off my nose as I have ordered a Volvo.

I'm the Marketing Manager for a dealer group and CARWOW approached me last year. We won't deal with them and a number of dealers take the same approach.

I believe BMW have now lifted the restriction on their dealers and thus the decision to participate with them or not now lies solely with the dealership - well that's what's reported last month in one of the 2 main UK motor trade magazines.

CARWOW will be an excellent tool for those dealers with absolutely massive unit targets to hit to get the back end money at the end of a quarter.

However negotiate hard in the first place and you'll get a good discount which may even outstrip CARWOW if you do your homework.  Some brands I know of have 20-30% margin in them depending on what fleet code the dealer registers the car as (every car has a fleet code regardless of customer type).

Catherine, your insight and information is very interesting - could you possibly name or give clues as to which brands have such large margins, as I am looking at a replacement towcar. My guess would be they could be Volvo and Nissan, but thats purely based on one or two deals I've seen recently
