Arrival Time on First Day Open
As most sites are due to open this month I'm just curious to know what time you can arrive on the first opening day.
There are no departures to conflict with, no pitches to service, no toilets to clean.
I'm booked onto such a site which states "No arrivals before 12.00". It's difficult to plan an exact arrival time when driving over 200 miles. In the past I have waited in a lay by to abide by the rule but surely it isn't necessary under these circumstances.

If I was a Warden I think I would much prefer not to have the morning interrupted by earlier arrivals - but some wardens may be more flexible! I think a great deal is asked of Wardens and most of them are wonderfully kind and accommodating.

I understand it should be 1200 hrs as from what i can glean the public liability insurance commences at that time, i understand one of the problems facing wardens on opening day is if they have seasonal pitches, they get a lot of grief from some members if they allow a before 1200 arrival with being accused of "favoritism" with pitches

You may be correct but it is a poor reason. Why can't the Club just stipulate 9.00am when they request the insurance?
Oh I know because that's what they have always done!

and the extra cost would be passed on to who? Just those who want to turn up at 9am? or spread the cost (of all sites across the network) to everyone?
Is there really a demand? Are there people that desperate to get in an extra three hours max? To leave at 6 or 7am?

Corners, what extra cost for say 3 hrs on the first day of the season? I don't for one minute imagine PLI is costed hourly.
The Wardens will already be on duty like any other day ( or are you suggesting a la MM only pay them from 12.00pm on the opening day )
What is the purpose of not allowing members to arrive at 10.00am when the site is obviously empty - that is just being pedantic and living up to the "old reputation of being rules mad
If cost is so important maybe someone should remind the CC of the cost of sending out unnecessary letters and stickers.

I should think no matter how early is stated, there will always be someone desperate to be the first, to get that nirvana perfect pitch, especially if the site does accommodate seasonal customers.
We stayed at Exeter Racecourse few Summers ago, and got chatting to a neighbour who had a seasonal pitch every year. We were staggered about what he told us regarding the cavalry charge of outfits desperate to get set up for the season, said it had to be seen to be believed!

Yes, I believe that it is a liability insurance issue, but don't imagine for one minute that on the day of opening the wardens are sat on their hands. The logistics of getting a site "up and running" are demanding, after the winters closure. No matter what opening time was set, it would never suit everyone. It is supposed to be a leisure industry, why get wound up about trivial issues. Relax and enjoy!

Well I didn't realise that insurance companies were so accommodating that they would give out three hours worth of cover free over such a wide network, but there you go I learn something everything day.
I really don't see opening at a set hour as set by the club as rules gone mad. and really not worth worrying about. As said by TDA state 9am and people will be asking for 7am.

I have no idea.

The Public Liability Insurance for the club will NOT be hourly but sorted on an annual contract. The actual renewal date will be time specific as will the final day of cover but other than that it will be annual. This is usually 24.00 and 23.59 or 12.00 and 11.59 but will run virtually continuously.
Just because members come onto site when it is open doesn't mean that other members of the public do not have access to the site when it is closed. Gas Maintenance, Fire Brigade, Heath and Safety, Builders etc. etc. may all call when the premises are closed for a variety of reasons and the insurance will have to cover them as well.

What a stupid response to a sensible question, just a pity the club don't respond and clarify such issues

OK, so the site at Buxton needs a gas man to service the boiler 4 weeks before it opens. How do you think the PL Insurance is arranged? Do they ring up each and every time someone new comes onto site? The Insurance company couldn't be bothered with that. It's the same with schools.
Besides which Public Liability Insurance does NOT actually need or have certificates of insurance as it is not a Compulsory insurance, merely recommended. Employers Liability Insurance on the other hand does. 99 times out of 100 a company the size of this one will arrange it's Liability Insurance with both parts being with the one insurer with just one common renewal date.

Yes I too have no idea when the wardens commence there work on a site. Do they start to receive pay from that day? No idea. Do they need to restock their shop, check over pitches, make sure no fallen branches, turn on water etc. etc.
No idea when the OP was looking to set out. If I was travelling 200 miles I would program a comfort stop and expect to take 4.5 hours. For me personally I would not hit the road much before 9 so as to avoid rush hour traffic. There would therefore be little chance of my arriving much before 1.30pm

If I was going to a site on opening day I would just assume that the 12.00 noon rule applied as it would on any other day. If you could arrive earlier the only people in a position to answer that question are the wardens who manage that site?

When our friends ran sites they were given between 3 and 7 days to get a site ready to re open depend on site size ,there is a lot to do,one year we went to Clumber Park to "help" them, when it was a seasonal site, there were just two couples in those days ,and with all the water supplies and EHUs to be checked also two toilet blocks to deep clean after a winter shut down, all the pegs to re deploy, numerous trailer loads of trees to be cut back and debris to clear ,all the site cut and ,service points to be put back into use, it was almost a days work just to catch up with all the latest "orders" and up dates from EGH,that had been sent by courier or royal mail, also take in the start of season supplies from vans arriving,,it was quite a feat to get it all done before opening day

also take in the start of season supplies from vans arriving
Each and every one of these vans will have a driver who is a member of the public. Exactly why the insurance couldn't be time specific for each site. Multiply this by the number of sites opening and the insurance manager would be on the phone to the insurer far too often for practical terms.

I would imagine the duty warden wouldn't answer the phone till reception & the site was officially open , usually 9am I would think they'll be pretty busy .
The OP mentioned a 200 mile trip to site , so he's thinking of leaving well before the office is even open.👍

Oh yes, was quite open about it. Said they all had preferred pitches, also said it was a real issue if weather had been bad and some of grass pitches weren't as good as expected, even more mayhem then.

I do wonder if the behaviours are driven by the roolz, as this CC / camc wotever its called, seems to uniquely exhibit such things as racing to get the best pitch be it a seasonal or a regular site holiday
Maybe the longer the membership the more indoctrinated one becomes, and the behaviours decline into rampant rages
It's meant to be a holiday from the rat race
