I personally have bought a Honda CR-V new "dream diesel. "

    1.6 ltr- 160 bhp.

    I tow an Adria Adiva 532UP- 1485 kg.plus bits.

Honda has 9 speed sequential/ auto box and always knows what gear it wants.

I get a respectable 32/34 towing and motorway solo work is around 42/44 - have had as much as 50+

    That's my six pennorth.

l had a Shogun Brilliant tow car but wouldn't pass fuel stations, we researched for a good twelve months wanted to stay Mitsubishi, we looked all different models and went to test drive 3 models Outlander , BMW x3 and test drove son in laws Jaguar Pace, The outlander was a little light the BM was pricey so was the Jag all three didn't have much luggage space. We then looked the Santa FE the Luggage  room was greater the performance after reading reviews looked brill,so in the end plumped for the SF got a good deal as long has we had it before the new year got £5770 off the Wiggins edition, maybe because he is now promoting Skoda great price for my Shogun . We haven't towed yet has to do £1200 miles, now just 10 mile off it, solo its proved a good buy, will be towing later this month that will tell me if l have got the right car. The van we have is Lunar Clubman SB well within match for the SF

I very much enjoy my Mitsubishi Outlander - Auto - but unfortunately now it seems diesel.  More space than you might think unless you actually look in it.  Don't know if its a match for your caravan though but mine is 1400kg.

You need to be more specific with your criteria otherwise you will end up totally confused and no further forward. What is your budget/Price limit, new/used, petrol/diesel, manual/auto, saloon/hatch/estate/mpv/4x4/suv ......?

I think that another good question that every caravanner buying a car, and particularly if from new, is what weight of van might I possibly wish to progress to in the future.

I know that because of a narrow road and footways outside that even with a motormover I am limited to not much more than 7m shipping length and single axle. So maximum MPTLM not much over 1500kg. The weight is also a consideration for me not only based on tow car weight but also tow hitch capacity.
