The same Club, just better...

In reply to Mr H:
Forgive me, but when I was a younger member, things like carrying a bit of water and emptying the loo were part of the caravanning adventure, and it added to keeping us fit! Even 35 years on, we can still manage to do this basic task. Whilst I appreciate that having some serviced pitches enables those who are less fit and able to carry on touring, turning every Club site into something akin to a touring care home, may not be the way forward to attract youthful new members! By all means have some serviced pitches, but please don't inflict them and the inflated price onto everyone!

1. If you believe ~"Government figures" you are very gullible.
2. How can a pension ever be better than a wage? Since pensions are made up of an accumulation of payments over many years it is most illogical to suggest pensioners are "better off". Admittedly we have paid off our mortgages and might even have had a lump sum to compensate for the loss of earnings resulting from an imposed early retirement but just to give an example, my son and his wife who re only early thirties are earning far more than we did at their age and much, much more than we both receive in our "company" pensions and my state pension....and since the Govt have cheated my wife out of a state pension for another 6 years we don't even have that enviable source of largesse. But we both served the public for all of our working lives, both incurring stress related or other illness/injuries and neither ever claimed unemployment benefits. This stupid talk of pensioners being wealthy, maybe because they have downsized, is divisive at every level....and especially in THIS CLUB!

I think that club prices at peak time for families are reasonably competitive from what I can see. I often see folk leaving site on Sunday outside school hols later than 12 O'clock. Often 2pm and sometimes 4 pm. It depends how booked up a site is for the sunday.
When my wife and I had two children we would usually pay for the Sunday night (usually a pitch and one adult) and leave much later or often first thing Monday morning. I would not book the Sunday probably until Sunday morning having initially booked Friday/Saturday. We were able to pull off for 6pm on a Friday.

Sometimes re-branding is an inspired forward move but more often than not it is the result of a desperate marketing director trying to extend his time in post. It usually buys them a year to eighteen months before they move on, albeit at some considerable trauma to the company or organisation they have re-branded
I suspect the latter. This is a pity as the CC by its nature has always been an organic, evolutionary organisation. Perhaps this should have been reflected in the logo, yes have a new forward looking design but with a nod to the history of the club."Since 1907" is that Jeep or Budweiser?
BTW Some of us remember the members vote when motorhomes were welcomed into the club.1 -
I completely agree that this is an absolute waste of a lot of money. Also every member has been sent a letter to announce this change. How much has this cost. This change of name was not required. If its not broken don't mend it. In fact the money would have been better spent training some Wardens not to be little Hitlers.

If you showed the new logo to a thousand people how many would guess it related to campsites?

Can't believe you think this is feasible. A whole new sewage system for EVERY pitch on EVERY site? Don't you think Club prices are high enough? Why do you think they now put wheels on porta-potti tanks?
Too much trouble ? Although, on second thoughts it could be a good idea, then those of us who find the filthy way some people leave the loos in the toilet blocks so disgusting might be able to avoid the confrontation.

EasyT, the only important question is has the lack of funds impacted on the enjoyment of your retirement?

Of course it is feasible. Cannot expect younger people to manage emptying loos. Us old farts are used to it and can ignore our old arthritic spines and gammy hips with ease. Cannot expect the younger folk to manage as it would be unfair. As for the provision; never mind the fact that most sites have areas of pitches where the sewage would have to either run up hill or have too little fall we can always take the odd pitch or two out and provide underground pumping stations.

Over 20 years ago I toured California with a motor caravan and every pitch had full serviced including sewage connections. It took about two minutes to hook everything up. If you look at the economics how many kilometres of pipe work could be installed for the cost of a toilet block. Not to mention the cleaning costs. Young people today do not want deal with waste.

Exactly EasyT, you only realise after retiremen,t that you don't need as much money as you did before to have a similar lifestyle.

Just read Nick Lomas welcome in the new site book - keeping up reflecting changes in our vehicles and how we use etc etc then
"we are moving with the times in terms of the ways you can interact with us. Technology is ever more important to us, that's why we launched our UK Sites app, which allows you to find and book sites on the go."
We'll if this website shows how important technology is to the Club then we're all on our way to he'll in a handcart 😉. Saints preserve us.

Kind of annoyed that any negativity directed towards this re-branding exercise is being directed here. There's obviously a huge strength of feeling amongst our members about the approach, any push back being met with meaningless corporate type strap line responses.
Is anyone else miffed at the new logo and branding without consulting the paying members? I'm a new younger member and really loved the original logo and colours. Also unique selling point of the caravan club is its heritage and tradition embodied in the original logo.
Reminds me of when British Airways painted the aircraft tail wings with gaudy modern artwork. Big mistake I suggest...

Maybe we all send the horrible stickers back to Head Office and let them see how we dislike them.......

Many RV users do not regularly use RV parks but tend to use Campsites as these do not generally have hook ups for grey waste and black waste and are far cheaper. On the RV parks there are often long term users that live full time and work. Not many young families with children. Cheaper ones are around £25 a night but £40 to £50 is not that uncommon and some of the fancier ones go up to as much as £80. I wonder why you don't see much families using them for recreation very often?
Info from a friend over there in California

To a certain extent this concentrates all the posts into one place and thus shows very easily, to those who choose to read, just what depth of feeling is. It would appear that we can comment critic or praise as much as we like but NO NOTICE will be taken or no courtesy to offer explanations on the most raised matter of consultation and cost.
Almost like being back at work - why would you in the front line know what's best when we who are remote KNOW how to deal with issues without your input. Does anyone recognise that?

Posting photos???? you got to be able to have a site that accepts photos easaily for the majority first,,, look at the issues experienced by many trying to include photo's on here it is a joke.. SG.....

No, you didn't join a club for Caravaners. You joined a club to which those of us with motorhomes have equal access. Your attitude is one of the reasons why the club has to change.

I didn't spend all my income then, and paid off my mortgage just before I was 40 and hence - no worries
When I retired at 55 people were saying to me 'can you afford to retire' my response was along the lines that I could not afford not too. Folk were surprised that I retired then because it was on the cards that within 2 years or so I would likely get a redundancy package. I also had the opportunity to work half time and still receive my pension. My freedom was more important. For a long time (over 15 years at least) I had often worked long hours and would not take payment at time and a half. Instead if they wanted me to carry out projects to tight deadlines I insisted on having my time back in lieu at single time. (not greedy). That meant that I usually had at least 12 weeks off a year to caravan or fly abroad. 18 months after I retired I was invited back to work as a consultant but declined as I doubted that they would have been happy for me to say I will only work start of November until end of February with two weeks off at Christmas.

I think that post is very much a minority view. Generally I have no bother who is alongside. I think if it were Jolly Kernow with his enormous, but lovely, fifth wheel I would prefer to be pitched on his southerly side to get some sun

Cyberyacht,
You are correct in your comments regarding the changes. I think that most members of this special CLUB, are happy to accept change as a way forward and modernising but it is the way it was sneaked in without members having the opportunity to give their opinion that has caused the backlash..As for feedback it would appear nobody seems to have been given the opportunity to give any and yet we have had to accept these expensive changes when there are many areas that need addressing as others on here have mentioned.
Is it any wonder that there has been such a response on here , when the news was leaked on an internet website when even paying members had not been informed. Bad policy ......
The sad thing is we will all have to pay for these expensive changes by increases in membership fees and site fees.
It would appear to me that this CLUB is no longer for members but for the few who seek notoriety for themselves and the" Aren't I good brigade.".It will be interesting to see how the rate of membership will be maintained by the Club for which it was designed or will end up predominantly by Motorhomers.I personally have no issues with who is a member of the CLUB as long as we are all treated as members and given equal membership......SG
5 -
......but we are equal and what difference does it make if our caravans are trailer or motorised? Many of us have used/still use both.
We empower the elected officers of the Club to run it and make decisions on our behalf. As I see it, making changes is within their remit without the need to consult membership.
With regards to being given the opportunity for feedback, isn't that exactly what's going on here?
