Are You Motorhomerphobic?
Does anybody know how many of our members are Caravanners and how many are Motorhomers.
I don’t think it’s 50/50 yet but I bet it’s getting that way. I would like to know for sure. Can anyone answer this?
It’s been 53 years since the club last changed its name in 1959. Does anyone think it will one day change its’ name again to maybe the Caravan and Motorhome Club or even the Motorhome and Caravan Club?
All the questions in the Profile Questionnaire are about Caravanners:
When did you start caravanning?
Where do you like to go caravanning?
Where are your favourite places to caravan in the UK?
In the forum guideline under your rights and responsibilities it says:
As a registered member of The Club, you can also register to join Club Together. Club Together is a place for caravan enthusiasts to come together, swap notes and explore the highs and lows of life on the road.
It all seems a little motorhomerphobic to me.
Should we have a collective name such as Campers, or Members(not sure about this one) or Caramotorvanners or Motorcaravanners?
Personally I quite like Motorcaravanners!
The Motorcaravanners Club It's got an all inclusive ring about it don’t you think?
I also think we should have an anti motorhomerphobic day in early April every year.
Please let me know what you think?

The problem is in the term "motorhome", as opposed to motorcaravan.
I no more think of a motorhome as a "home", than I do a caravan. A static mounted on casters
A static mounted on pathetically small wheels I feel is more a "home" that a caravan.

I think were all caravanners really. Some of us tow a caravan and some of us carry one round fixed to a pickup truck type chassis. For me its the CC and thats what i will call it if asked. What others choose to call it is their business.Happy caravanning

I'm not bothered what people use on site be it motorhome, caravan, trailer tent, campervan or tent.
People invest too much effort in caring about other people's choices and far too much time trying to justify their own choices by criticising others.
I'm more interested in actions and outcomes than the name of a club but if it's important to some that their outfit is mentioned then great. I'd prefer the club to identify targets for improvement and deliver them but I'm not holding my breath

From some of the comments it seems the management are creating a rather unpleasant rift between caravanners and motorhomers that did not exist before.
Not good for the future of the club whatever is called. Bet the C&CC are looking at buying new sites to accommodate ex CC members.

I always used to call them campervans but this seemed frowned upon by those who had them. The Americans just seem to call everything an RV ( recreational vehicle) It is just that some are nothing more than large 4x4, some full blown coach sized Motorhomes and a few towed trailers. When we hired an RV in the states they found the term campervan rather amusing.

SteveL, I usually refer to mine as "The Van" but the CaMC has called me a Motorhomer, so I bow to their all encompassing vision.
One thing I do remember is watching the Video Link Tricky posted for his gorgeous, ginormous 'Motor when the Salesman who gave us "The Tour" kept calling it a "Camper" !!
Should have cost him £thousands !

Well spotted, Dave. I quote -
"Ay oh enough gloating and car-a-vanner baiting for now, see you all in a few years, when they change the name again perhaps, to The Motorhome & Tin Tenters Club. Love the new temporary, interim name, for now. Well done all involved at The Car-a-van and MOTORHOME Club 😄"
If that's not trolling, I don't know what is. Worthy of a report I think.

In answer to the op (and ignoring all the following distracting comments)....... no, I have no problems whatsoever with motorhomes.
In fact I quite like to have them next to me, because they usually don't have awnings and so make the place less cluttered.
The more the merrier!

I'm going to close this thread as I think this is likely best discussed in the main thread to avoid arguments.
