Hi. I wonder if anyone has experience as to whether it is necessary to book campsites in advance on Lewis / Harris and north and south Uist for the last two weeks in April for a motor home tour? We may "wild park" occasionally overnight but will have to use sites for water and chemical disposal. I do intend to book " Hopscotch tickets in advance.

We went over to the Uists in May last year and had no trouble getting into the small sites. On the first night because the ferry was delayed, we rang our first planned site ahead from the ferry as it was going to be dark just to make sure of a pitch - no problem. If you come over to Uist from Skye there is a tourist info. centre just near the ferry who should be able to give you all the info you need on chemical emptying and fresh water- with it being early season I would check the opening hours on the web. Wild camping again is no problem Our intention was to go over to Harris and Lewis but the weather was a bit rough so we decided to leave that until this year. I looked at a Hopscotch and I came to the conclusion that cost wise it did not offer any advantage, and we bought tickets as we went - it certainly gave us more flexibility with respect to changing our plans.

We spent two weeks there in May about four years ago and didn't have any problem with sites. We just turn up, no advance booking.
Neither did we book the Ferries in advance and used the Uig terminal on Skye we were prepared to wait if the next ferry was booked but didn't have too.
