For more than 50 years, the Club has welcomed motorhome owners into membership, and this sector has steadily grown. In spirit, we have been ‘the caravan and motorhome club’ for a very long time. This change is aimed to emphasise the inclusiveness of the organisation, with a range of products and services geared to meet the needs of a diverse membership, rather than draw distinctions between those choosing a different path to the same goal.

Caravanners are still just as important to us smile

Ay oh enough gloating and car-a-vanner baiting for now,  see you all in a few years, when they change the name again perhaps, to The Motorhome & Tin Tenters Club. Love the new temporary, interim name, for now. Well done all involved at The Car-a-van and MOTORHOME Club 😄

Scary or what? I had decided that today I was contacting the CC to complain about the non-appearance of the sites directory and also the continued absence of CL info on the web site! How was I to know the news that came out.

Sounds like a media birthday for some expensive agency.

New brand logo which needs an expensive video to explain what it means.

Reams and reams of "bull" from the powers that be to justify what will be a bill running into horrendous proportions. My guess is way into six figures!

We are The Caravan Club and taking the line of new thinking we should now be The Caravan, Motorhome, Campervan, Trailer Tent, Tent  etc Club.

What a load of ego fetching rubbish. No doubt the hierarchy will expect a good pay rise for the thought that's gone into this change. The sad part is that in a growing industry, they will almost certainly be able to claim a rise in numbers, as their success.

Rochelle, Thank you for your reply but the comment from janhsm probably speaks for everyone.

We really need specifics not aspirations.

I've been a member for 40 years and find this the most ridiculous thing yet. When was the member consultation? In my working life, I went through not dissimilar situations with 2 different organisations and even got told off by one when I moved house and needed to change my (pre-computer) letterheads because of the cost. Surely this will cost - changing all paperwork, site signs etc etc. Keeping site fees/subs down and improving sites will increase membership, not a name change! My 'business bible' says that changing such things only gives the impression of progress!

i'll go with the suggestion to call it the Parkers & Pitchers Institute - at some time in the future, I can then claim compensation for having been missold the subscription!

lots of moans about not being treated like members of a club, but how many of you actually behave like members and not just users of the services provided?

I have both a campervan and a caravan so where does that leave me? I suspect I will still get the sour looks from wardens when I turn up with my outfit(s)

I have for some time often thought the Caravan Club was focussing more and more on Motor Homes, and this has confirmed my thoughts.

I much prefer the old logo, and name...........

    I don't behave like a member. I am indeed a service user.

I don't wish to be a 'member' and don't care about names and branding but before my renewal reminder arrives I'd like some meat on the bones of this four word skeleton

The Clubs not been a Club for a long time. It's a business that's had the dreaded "marketing speak" added.

All that's been said is a load of waffle that doesn't tell you anything, just sounds impressive to some.

I agree that the club does have a stand offish reputation and is for older people. it would help if "committees"  didn't insist on wearing chains of office. We're a club not the CofE!

I have another question to ask those members more knowledgeable than me , and that is   what do the constitutional laws of the club state about name changes and have they had to close the club and apply for a new name, this all involves some legal involvement I presume. How do we the money payers know if this has been authorised correctly or just  rushed through. Some Answers please......

But that is surely the point. The management don't appear to understand what members want, most certainly what motorhome owners want. It's been over 40 years since we had a caravan, and since then we've used club sites less and less. Motorhome owners are the true explorers.A substantial number of motorhome owners look out of the window and decide whether or not to go away, and when they are away like to follow whatever direction they fancy The Caravan Club block booking system doesn't allow that for most sites. Motorhome owners also have to pay through the nose for facilities which they already have on board.

There are of course exceptions, but discussions on proper motorhome forums will untouchably negate a lot of the supposed benefits of rebranding. In my professional experience rebranding exercises are carried out for one of two reasons. Ego, or targeted at a specific audience. Since it doesn't seem to have been the second one...............

All fine but why the rebrand? Please don't say it to demonstrate the inclusiveness the club aspires to.

Just replace some of the committee and elect new younger blood.

    Costs nothing same outcome.

You have to be joking Tinwheeler, the website is much easier for finding and reviewing sites than the book ever was. I remember many frustrating hours trying to find a suitable CL in the darned book. I`m surprised the club don`t save a stack of money by stopping it altogether, useless ancient and irrelevant

FAQs? Aren't these the things that marketeers think up to give answers to non-existent questions and give the impression that they're listening?

Wouldn't be better to collate all the questions on here, give them some real consideration and respond honestly? And I don't mean the ones about the actual name (that's done and dusted) but all the questions about what will be different etc etc etc.

    Hi Janhsmn,

It's the 'getting out and doing your own thing' - those are your experiences and your adventures, we want to improve the services we offer to help you, and the new generation of explorers, do that.

Twobeards, you may be right, yes we welcome you but on the same conditions as the rest of us in the club, but when you start to receive advantages not given to the rest of us with caravans then it begins  to become unfair, and that is what has started a lot of the problems... After all we are all members of the same club and should have the same expectancies and rights,,,,,,,...SG

Going the way of all large organisations ( especially public sector ) lets keep reorganising things, and changing things that aren't broken, just to justify some ones position in the organisation. After all it's not their money ! The person who did this will leave within 2 years, before the fallout comes back to hit them, and go and do it in another organisation, and the replacement will do something similar to justify themselves.

Like making it possible to book hard standings?

Or perhaps not promoting popular sites for redevelopment?

Or simply finding replacement sites for those that are lost?

When are we likely to have more information about the 'journey'

Yes you are correct.  This used to be a members club but we've move with the times.  It is now just a company I'm very much afraid.
