Winterhoff 'banging'

We tow a 2014 Elddis Affinity (Winterhoff hitch) with a 15 plate Sorento KX2 and sometimes when riding over bumps in the road a sharp loud bang is sometimes heard from the rear of the car. The tow bar (fixed swan neck) was supplied and fitted by the car dealer before collecting the car.

There isnt any regularity as to when it bangs.

We towed the van for 2 years with an Insignia without any such banging being heard.

I wondered if the banging could be caused by the hitch either as it falls or rises with the front or rear of the hitch to then bang again the neck of the tow ball?

Well as its fixed and not detachable it can't be that (unless its all coming loose). I have a Winterhoff also with a fixed towball and it is silent, there should be no noise/clunk with rising or falling. But if the hitch damper is void of oil or knackered then forward/backward movement will cause a knock/clunk, as the damper reaches ends of travel.

Could it be the jockey wheel touching the ground?
