After 30 years of caravanning we have now sold our lovely Cadiz and cancelled our membership to the CC. We just need to sell the air awning now. Towing etc was becoming too much for us as we grow older. On the up side we now have a static caravan at Stratford upon Avon, which we love. Well we couldn't give it up altogether. ( If you are reading this , thanks for the advice Mousley, hope you are enjoying your new van) I will miss the sites we loved, Moreton in Marsh, Longleat, Hillhead. Also all the lovely people we met along the way, families and older folk, sitting in the awning for breakfast on lovely days, etc However, we wont miss the people who allow their dogs to yap and then constantly shout at them for doing so, making as much noise as their dogs, or the December frenzy booking days. But we have had many good holidays. Won't be posting on here much more as really don't like this new site. So happy caravan season everyone and its goodbye from us.

I dread when the time comes that I am faced with the same decision. Best of health and good wishes

So you got sorted! Nice to know, and I hope you enjoy your new holiday home as much as you did touring. Lovely area, plenty to see and do. We kept a bolt hole van down in Cornwall, which saved us lugging something up and down four or five times a year, using the smaller tourer for other places.

Keep your good memories, along with the not quite so good, and enjoy your new favourite place. All the bestlaughing

Glad you're sorted for more caravan breaks without the worry of towing. Wouldn't think it could have been an easy or swift decision to make, but one I fear lots of us will face at some point. Sounds like you've done well and I wish you happy holidays in your static which is in a delightful area.

Completely understand your comments regarding further postings but do let us know how you enjoy your first year. Might help some of us in due course 😉

Well I'm so glad things have worked out well for you DEBSC ( but you never got chance to change your name to DEBSCI did you?!!) I'm sure you'll love being at Stratford and although you'll missing the relative flexibility of touring you'll soon get used to not towing, not setting up the water, toilet etc, not hooking up to the EHU and all the other things that come with arriving on site. And I seem to remember you saying you had some nice neighbours on site - it's quite a change seeing the same faces every time you visit and good to now that there's someone to keep an eye on things when you're away.

We're really pleased with our new van - mind you, since it's right next door to where our old one was we new we were on to a winner! We're fortunate enough to be able to keep the tourer though ( well, it wouldn't be worth much anyway) so we'll still mix going to Cornwall with visiting other parts of the country. In fact I've just today booked a week in June at Ross park which must be quite close to your part of the world.

When does the season open at Stratford? Or is it a 12 month job? Our park is closed for February and we're off to warmer climes in a couple of weeks time, but we can't wait to get back down to Cornwall at the end of March.

Do keep looking in and let us know how things are going.  smile

Sad that you had to give up touring Debsc but I'm sure that having a static to go to will be a really good alternative.

You'll be able to go there at the drop of a hat, no dragging the caravan in and out, easier and more economical driving, fitted plumbing......crikey I'm talking myself into having one!

Seriously...Stratford is a lovely area and great for exploring surrounding towns and countryside.

    Enjoy your 'retirement'! smile

Thank you all for your good wishes. Don't dread giving up, I never thought I would want to stop touring as I always loved it but just lately it has got too much. Just a shame that the best van we ever had was the last one, someone will get a lovely van. We are just thinking of it as our new venture, a new era. We did do a lot of homework and certainly didn't rush into it. Living in Devon is lovely but now we have the best of both worlds, as we can get to places like the NEC, Oxford, we are nearer to our son and his family and we can walk into Stratford with all its restaurants and the theatres. Lovely neighbours our own age to socialise with or we can just relax on our own. Only had it since Sept but love it already and can't wait to get back there when the site reopens in March. We were concerned about the expense but when we considered storage fees, fuel and all the CC site fees it's not too that much more.

All the very best wishes DEBSC, I think I know the site you are going on in Stratford as our son lived close by for many years. We loved visiting them and even considered a static there ourselves. I'm sure you will enjoy it, the weather there was always nice when we went down to see them. If you feel like a change you could always rent a narrow boat wink
