New Vehicle Tax Rates (from 01/04/17)
Why aren't we being made more aware of the astronomical increase in Vehicle Tax Rates about to hit come April 1st? These new rates will add over £1,000 per year to the cost of running the kind of tug we caravanners need for larger vans..!

But we are aware so I can't see what more you want.

Not sure where you get an extra £1000 a year.
Currently my Sorento costs me £210 a year.
If I purchased a brand new one after April I will pay £450 a year for the first 5 years reducing to £140 per year after that. Admittedly there is a higher first year payment of £500 -£800.
As long as I keep my current Sorento I will continue to pay £210 a year.
At least that is how I interpret the information from this site
Happy to be corrected if I am wrong!

It is a scheme (we spell it S C A M up here) to get older vehicles off the road.

If you read the www.gov.uk web site like I did you will probably come to the conclusion that if your Sorento is currently taxed on emissions then your tax should drop to £140 from next renewal.
My Passat estate is currently £30 and will go up to £140.

The way I read it, is that vehicles already registered before 1st April, will stay taxed in the same bands and catagories as they allways have been. So unless I mis-interpreted it, Sorento will stay at £210 (until government increases it next budget!)

Why do governments have to create additional complexity by having two RFL systems? With this mindset, is it any wonder that we have the most complex tax system in the world?
