Not allowed to pay for pitch without caravan

We store our caravan at a club site and a few weeks ago it was our wedding anniversary and had booked a pitch onsite many months earlier. Because it was a nice day and the kids were on holiday I suggested that my wife goes to the site pays for the Pitch, sorts the water and tables and have a some lunch. But no this is not allowed... follishly my wife was honest when paying and told the warden that she was unable to get our caravan out of storage on her own but I would be along in a few hours. Because she didn't have the caravan the warden refused to take her money and allocate her a pitch. Surely this is not correct is it, if it is why such a crazy rule?

If it is what is the difference between a motorhome turning up paying and setting up and then leaving to my wife arriving setting up and then leaving. Either way the pitch has no caravan on?

Luckily a couple of gentlemen over heard the conversations and help get the caravan out of storage allowing my wife to pay. Next time I've suggested not saying anying and just paying, the warden will be none the wiser and if they do ask we can say theres a problem with a wheel lock.

I am trying to work out if the OP has a dislike of motorhomes or just life in general. Chill out, it's supposed to be a fun way of holidaying. There are far worse dilemma's in life!smile

I'm a afraid your wife can't turn up to reserve a 'good spot' pitch using a few tables and chairs, not unless she has a towball strapped to her belt and does a Geoff Capes in hauling it to your preferred pitch.

This has got to be a wind up? (2012??) Also I think the wardens might notice the car going through without a caravan on the back?

I have mixed feelings about this situation. We are continually told by some that the Warden knows everything about their site. ------How then would he/she not know that the member had caravan stored in their compound. ------It would be so easy to check. Knowing that, IMO it would be in keeping with the club ethos to allow the pitch to be paid for and to be helpful to the member.

Fortunately other members saved the situation by doing the decent thing and assisting.

However from what  JK says, allowing the member to pay for the pitch is impossible.

Perhaps HO can explain if this is a universal rule across all sites or was the OP just unlucky.

    Cheers...........K

No mixed feelings here. If somebody is prepared to get the caravan out of storage then no problem If not then no pitch

This post has risen from the past, all by itself!

JVB66 was the first to comment ( today) so it's not as if the discussion has been going on all these past years. Is this another gremlin for cyberyacht's snag list?

As the OP lives in Bedfordshire? the only club sites that are in that area with storage are both in Hertfordshire and both are busy sites most of the time, one has only 40 pitches the other about 70  even less when the grass pitches are not used , so I think the wardens were looking to the reaction of others arriving and seeing a "prime" pitch occupied by a person and picnic table, "saving" it for a later arrival

The problem would be K, how long do you allow with the table and chair before the caravan appears. Once you set a precedent, potentially someone could turn up at 12 noon, but not site the caravan till 7:00pm.

Good post Steve, but the same scenario of a pitch with a table and chairs could also be down to a Motorhomer who has gone out for the day and left personal items on their pitch.  It happens often.

Totally different K than the scenario of bagging pitches for units coming later in the day.

The difference being is the motorhomer would have arrived, paid for then chosen his pitch before going out.

Whether a van is in storage or not is immaterial, as is who brings the outfit. The plain fact is you arrive with your outfit, pay for then choose your pitch. Doing what the op is suggesting is the equivalent of saving a pitch for someone.

Mixed feelings are akin to discretion but in this case and others like it the pitch is only yours when the wheels of your unit are placed on it. Not a table or chairs. Even with a motorhome it must arrive on the pitch first before 'claiming' it!
