Hello all, I have just purchased my first caravan having recently retired. I'v bought a 1994 Coachman Armara van with end bathroom. My problem (challenge, ex work talk!) is I need to attach a cycle carrier to the rear, Is there any fellow caravaner knows where the support struts are in the rear panel. I would assume that there is a vertical mullion each side of the bathroom window which could be used. I would welcome advice on this matter.

Thanks

Do you know that a cycle rack can be fitted to your c/van, as it is only in the last few years to my knowledge that a few makes of vans have had  a strong enough panels  and any fixings for cycle racks

I agree with JVB. Not every van, by any means, is strong enough to support a carrier and bike on the rear wall.

I'd suggest contacting Coachman customer services rather than taking a chance. If you get it wrong your rear wall will be weakened affecting the integrity of the structure of the van and will encourage water ingress. Caravans are relatively flimsily built and careful thought and research needs to be undertaken before altering the structure in any way.

Personally, I'd rather carry the bike elsewhere.

Thanks for your replies, I would assume that the rear window is fixed into 2 vertical uprights. My intension would be to make an aluminium sub-frame using channel fixed to the uprights then attaching a cycle rack to the aluminium sub-frame. I will call Coachman and take advice from them. Regards
