Hi, we've just brought a second hand elddis affinity 530 and upon hitching it up to the car I couldn't help but notice how low the jockey wheel was in relation to the floor!  What I were wondering if anyone knows if there is a way of getting some sort of adapter bracket so that the jockey wheel can be fixed on the outer side of the A frame if you know what I mean so I can pull up the wheel higher on the side of A frame hitch frame (sorry don't know the name of it!!).  I guess on the plus side it would be much easier to just take off rather than have to unwind it and get covered in grease and then pop it back together every time we go away!

    Have you tried:-

    Point jockey wheel to the rear of caravan

    Then will the wheel fit up under the A frame cowling

    Brackets are available quite cheaply to fit a jockey wheel on the outside of the A-frame.  Unfortunately the need to drill two large holes in the A-frame outweighs the benefits as they can easily lead to failure of the side member. Replacement would be more than caravan is worth, assuming it survived the crash.

    sorry if you know this, but I assume (after hitching) you wind up the jockey wheel with the winding handle, and as meatHome says point the jockey backwards, then do you unclamp the jockey wheel and pull it upwards as far as it will go and reclamp?

    On pitching unclamp and clamp again when the jockey is about 3/4 inches off the ground then use the winder to make it touch the ground, unhitch  then adjust to level front to back.

    I have a Compass Omega (Elddis), same as the Affinty, you can get the jockey wheel right up into the A frame, just wiggle it about a bit and it goes up.

    Our first van had a central jockey and as stated you had to get it positioned correctly so you could get it up into the A frame. However, when we replaced it with one that had a pneumatic wheel it did reduce clearance somewhat and we had to be very careful over road humps. It did make manovering with the power mover easier though, so we stuck with it. We only scraped it slightly a couple of times, and as it was a deformable pneumatic tyre did no damage.
