VW Tiguan: Towing mirrors

Hi is there anyone out there with a VW Tiguan as their tow vehicle and if so, which are the best caravan towing mirrors to use because our last four cars have been Honda CRVs which all had large wing mirrors whereas this new car (only got it yesterday 👍😊) has quite small ones so our usual 'add-on mirrors' don't fix on so we will need to get some others before towing.  HELP!

I don't know if they are the best mirrors but we use the milenco aero ones, I think they're called.  No problems at all.

We enjoy towing with our tiguan and hope you do too - very competent without being too large for what we need.

Great, many thanks for your reply.  I will pass this on to hubby (who does the towing etc).  We have usually used Milenco products and they seem to be up to the job so we will try those as you suggest.  Glad you enjoy towing with your Tiguan; we are really looking forward to getting our c'van out of storage to tow with our new vehicle.

To ensure a secure fit you will also need the 'f' pads available from Milenco.  I have these on my Tig and have no problems.  Another fan of Tigs as a towing vehicle.

I got fed up to the back teeth with fighting to fit my Milenco mirrors to our Qashqai.  Furthermore I found them difficult to adjust with a lot of his and her discussion as my long suffering wife tried to follow my instructions for adjusting the nearside mirror.  Some weeks back I decided enough was enough and bought a pair of "Suck It and See" mirrors.  We used them for the first time last week for a 50 mile tow to our dealer for repairs to the van.  We were delighted with them.  Easy to fit, simple to adjust and adequate visibility.  No more Milencos for us.

I looked on u tube at these stick on mirrors and they certainly look easy to fit. A point was made that you adjust their setting via your car mirrors controls. Surly, you can adjust Milenko clip on mirrors using the car mirrors control - or am I wrong or missing the point. I look forward to the answer(s).

Milenco mirrors clip to the mirror housing which on most cars is fixed & the glass moves within it. I've  never fancied the idea of suck-it-and-see partly because I like to have the option of using the car's  mirrors too.

MollysMummy, I must admit that I had not realised that only the glass moves! Will check my car tomorrow and see what my situation is.

I too have the old style VW Tiguan and the Milenco Aero mirrors that clip on the car mirror frame, we've been on 1,000 mile trip around Spain last year they were very secure.

We have the old style tiguan with the standard aero pads.  They seem to fit ok but are the f pads better or are they just needed on the new style tig?

Whilst the standard pads will fit on my 2014 Tig the 'f' pads make for a more secure fitting; indeed, I towed with my Tig for a year before I heard of these pads. They are made to cater for the slight differnce in height between the black edge and the main body of the mirror and have a bit that goes into the small gap.  For the sake of a few pound they give a better and secure fit.

I am currently using the Milenco Aero on a Discovery Sport but I never like to rely solely on just the screw clamps. I buy the rubber mirror straps for about £1.50 from my local dealer (Bardsea Leisure) which attach  at one end to the arm holding the mirror and then have a clip at the other to hook onto the opposite edge of the car mirror housing. I like the extra security. If a mirror comes off at speed it could cause damage to the caravan body work. I personally have reservations about those attached with just suckers to the car mirror - a bit of dirt on the glass or wear on the sucker might reduce adhesion me thinks.

Thanks - I think I'll get some as with the difference in height between the two parts, the pads do sit at rather an awkquard angle
