Somewhere, lost on the old story section was a short tale of a visit to NT Stourhead. Since it's not far from where we live and we visit quite often I thought a visit on a nice frosty morning might be a good idea. Some had mentioned the new CL at Stourhead so I thought I'd take a look at that too.

Luckily the Stourhead estate is open nearly all year and out of the main season is a perfect place for a few hours escapism.

The frost had certainly taken a grip on this visit and much of the water was frozen, but signs of spring were in the air, snowdrops out and pink rhododendrons just starting to blossom.

If you don't know Stourhead it's not far from Longleat and Wincanton, just a few minutes off the A303.  The CL has now been moved from it's original place close to the cafe area to a much quieter spot on one side of the overflow car park. At this time of the year a reasonably peaceful area with EHU etc and hardstandings. It's just a few minutes stroll from the cafe, reception area and well stocked farm shop. Out of hours the estate pub, the Spread Eagle pub is also a few minutes away on foot or by car. I've taken a long distance shot of the CL but it's not as distant as it appears.

This is a good time of the year to visit Stourhead, it's nice and quiet just now. We visit throughout the year to watch the changing seasons.

We visited once on our way to SW promising ourselves another visit, which hasn't happened 😐. Maybe we can tie it in with a tour using the CL. Thanks for reminding me.

Not a place we have visited, but think we will have to now.

    Lovely pictures too.
