Nissan X trail towing

I am thinking about getting a 2017 Nissan X trail to tow my Bailey Unicorn which is fitted with an Alko hitch.

Has anyone any experience/advice whether a detachable tow bar is suitable to fit and allow enough space for the Alko hitch to move without touching the vehicle ?

Cheers

Sorry can't answer your query about towbars but thought the new X trail was only 1.6L (or is that just the info I read on the CC Matching Service?)

    Hi

Nissan have recently indicated that they are including a 2 litre Diesel engine and the club have advertised it including a club discount plus extras ( see Jan magazine)

    thanks

If the swan neck towbar is type approved then there should be no problems with an Alko hitch.

Why not contact your local tow bar fitter and ask?

Thanks. Was considering getting the Nissan supplied towbar which I would guess would be type approved but will also ask a local tow bar fitter

IME nissan dont factory fit any towbar, so you might as well go the aftermarket route, its cheaper.

The alko hitch is a non standard fitting. Type approval only covers a standard hitch. Check the clearance before buying.

We have purchased two of the older model XTrails from new, over the last 8 years, and had removable tow bars fitted to both. The Nissan dealer used a specialist tow bar fitter, as they said they did not have the on site  expertise, as they did not fit that many. I just specified I wanted a removable tow bar suitable for an Alko hitch, and that is what I got.
