Adult only sites & number of dogs

My suggestion for midweek AO sites was meant to be tongue in cheek, and I certainly would not want a dog free site, but I do like the concept of "adult focused" site and think that there are those around already in the form of non-facility site. Only wish that there were more of them!

We have used AO sites on a few occasions, mainly because they have been the best site in the area we were visiting and we have not had the grand children with us.
As for the CC introducing them, I personally think it would be totally against the ethos of the club and see no reason for them to go down this route when they are easily available via the search sites already mentioned in this topic.

Just to respond some of the earlier comments.
A few people like to trot out the expression that "children are the future of our Club". Well, I'm not so sure.
The fact is that the more mature campers are the ones with disposable income. They are also the ones who have the available time to spend on holidays......not just two weeks in the summer and the odd weekend, when junior hasn't dictated that he/she wants to do one of their many other pastimes.
Older (retired) people will fill the mid-week pitches.
They are, in summary, the target audience for the CC (and other leisure organisations) and are, in effect, the secret to the future prosperity of the Club.

I won't grace posts with comments about 'not liking children' with a comment, other than to say that I hope that a moderator or member of staff will remove such disgusting comments.
This is a friendly forum and such comments are unwelcome here.

I don't recall any unfriendly comments at all! Furthermore, I see none that need removing as all to my knowledge have entered into this discussion with friendly and positive comments and suggestions.
I, at a very early age, was introduced to this pastime of ours by my parents and, my children, by Mrs YSF and me. I reckon a goodly number of us came this way! Us older ones are already well and truely hooked, and catered for in my opinion. Yes we oldies do need to be considered but the new target audience should be the next generation and their children. I reckon that makes for a very sensible business focus. Afterall, they are the future, families and their children that is!

Couldn't agree more, Micky. The problem is, as we've seen in the past, that some folk won't accept views different to their own as being anything but "twaddle". Let's not get moderators involved more than absolutely necessary. There aren't any posts referring to children on this thread that need removing; all views are equally valid.Smiley smiley!

+1 there Smiley smiley

reasonable idea, M....
my only issue is that, folk might wish to search for 'adult focussed', 'children focussed' or other site attributes, but given the situation with the current 'system', it will probably return all sorts of answers, with not all of them being accurate...
its long been thought that a selection of 'non-ehu' (CL searches) might be achieved, yet something as simple as this seems totally beyond delivery...
its great having more descriptives/attributes but having to trawl each site manually to be able to read them would be a struggle.....
I guess there wont be any more search attributes introduced until the search can return accurate results based on the ones we already have...
however, i agree with your suggestion, just not confident ots real usefulness can be deliverd.

Well for main sites searches you can filter by the ideal for families button so adding an extra search button shouldn't be too difficult? should it?
I suppose you can search for more 'adult focused' (need a better title though) by making sure that your preferred site does not have this icon, but agree that is a bit of a chore. There is a peaceful icon search, does that imply it is not normally full of children?
Our children's entertainment was with us inside the caravan so a playground was not on our list.

well there are different parenting ways, ours was to be with our children looking after them while yours was to let them run free.

What exactly is wrong with anyone wishing to find a quiet site without children present?
2 -
There is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all, dm, and there are plenty of sites out there offering exactly that. It's just that many of us (I hesitate to use the expression "the majority") don't see AO as fitting with the club's ethos of inclusivity.
2 -
Nothing at all. Some people like children on site some don't and it's their choice to choose whichever site suits their needs. There are plenty AO sites out there. You are not forced to join the club, you are not forced to come to club sites, but this is a club, we all pay the same membership fee to join and that means you should be able to access all sites within the club. Also it is supposed to be an inclusive club that welcomes children. Why join or come to a club site if you don't like having children present?

Quite agree AD, if the weather is awful they there may be no alternative otherwise children should be outside burning off their energy. A CC site may not not the best environment for this.

There is nothing wrong in seeking peaceful and quiet sites, but to the exclusion of some fellow members who may incidentally be very quiet individuals, no!
As we all know, there are a few sites which by nature of location are particularly suited to families and, as a result, on a few of these sites there are additional facilities specifically provided for these families. Similarly, there are those sites which, for a variety of reasons, are particularly attractive to we older folk and are by enlarge frequented by us. Now we don't ban oldies from using the family orientated sites. Nor should we consider banishing the younger ones from ever entering onto or staying at those sites which are considered, by some, more conducive to us older folk.
Yes, by all means, actively and positively promote sites for their specific nature and facilities but to ban sections of our membership from using these would eliminate specific areas of our countryside, the pursuits these localities offer and other possibilities to them. This would be counter productive, divisive for many and against the ethos of our club in my opinion and rather negative backward thinking if I might be allowed to say so.

What's all this nonsense about Family focus and Adult focus CC sites. ?. That's a bit like talking Mug-Wump.
All CC sites are Suitable for Families and Adults. They are after all, only a parking place for the van, to allow those parked there to enjoy their holiday break and see what the surrounding area has to offer in the way of Family or Couples or Singles entertainment and interest.
Good parents spend their holiday time with their child or children, sharing the experience together.
Cheers............................K

Well I agree whole heartedly with you K and I'm glad you've been won over to that point of view because surely earlier in the thread you were suggesting that the CC should trial AO at some of its sites. It's one of the strengths of this forum that folk can be persuaded to come round to a new way of thinking. Well done you! Smiley smiley!

I didn't mean we kept them in the van all the time! We didn't really stay on site during the day we were usually out either climbing mountains, (our youngest did Dale Head when she was four) or visiting local attraction that they liked. Evenings however were usually in and around the caravan together as a family. We didn't need a playground to keep them amused.

Well done her! I suppose she had to learn to fend for herself.
well one daughter got a first and is now buying her own home at the age of 22 . Another is studying abroad in France. My son starting his own training business. Each to their own.
Bit off topic to attack someone's parenting though AD like you did? so I'll say no more to carry this on.
