Being in the 21st century I have found that when it is dark,in order to be courteous to the driver behind all I have to do in my 21st century vehicle is flick a small button to activate the brake and then drive off when ready, surely not too much effort. Sorry I forgot," Sod dazzling people".

Clearly manufacturers cannot legislate for people who do not wish to comply with the rules regarding dazzling other drivers.

I bought my first ever auto box car in 2013. When looking at the spec I noticed the option for hill hold assist, it's an Audi Q5, and having looked into this ordered this option as I thought it would help with hill starts when towing-I was also convinced by the £65 cost being reasonable.

I do occasionally turn of the stop/start when in er, stop /start traffic. The rest of the time it stays on as does the hill hold.

The stop/start has on the odd occasion done the stop bit but not the start bit but other than that it's fine. The hill hold is very useful, now I am used to it, but the interaction with the s/s sometimes means that just as it starts to bite, at a junction say when you are just giving way,the engine will stop as it is activated by pressure on the brake pedal.

For many years I avoided an auto box, for what I now know were inaccurate and outdated reasons, and when buying this car could not see why I needed auto lights or wipers , I was more than capable of turning these on,but they are a driver aid that works and have been on since getting the car.

Are you sure you can tow in ECO mode ? would think towing is defeating the idea of ECO. sealed

As I said earlier, when towing Eco mode is deactivated in my Tig.  Glad to see we are back on topic!

Your original post asked the question,Re Eco stop start " l know this might stir up an hornets nest but anyone out their with any views"????

My view is that although it works seamlessly stop start has a drawback on automatics because it requires you to keep your foot on the brake in order to activate it however, judging by the number of people sitting in traffic at night with brake lights glaring I am in a minority in wanting to show some courtesy to following drivers.

Re stopping with you foot on the break in stop start, not at all if its fitted with auto break hold which most have, only problem is when you hit the accelerator theirs  few seconds lag, you need to be aware of this at rounderbouts or give way junctions

I don't know about Hyundai but it appears that most vehicles fitted with  auto break hold illuminate the brake lights when it is active.

Vulcan - that's  not quite true of all vehicles.  My last Touareg operated as you suggest but my latest one (MY2015) works in the opposite way in that you don't have to keep your foot on the brake to keep the engine stopped.  It stays stopped until you touch the accelerator pedal, regardless of whether or not your foot is on the brake.  Whilst I am in agreement with you about avoiding dazzling drivers behind by keeping your foot on the brake pedal, on this latest model, you have no option - the brake lights remain on whether or not your foot is on the pedal.

We also purchased a new Santa Fe in late November, lovely car and a good deal was obtained!

We are getting used to the stop/start. I do turn it off if I remember.

I like the auto hold, and have got used to the electronic parking brake, like the way it releases automatically when you drive off.

The reversing camera and sensors are great but we have not tried the automatic parking gizmo!

If you use the hand brake at traffic lights the stop start is automatically overridden, i.e. no footbrake, no stop start.. My understanding is that the handbrake should be used when stationary, my driving instructor informed me that holding foot on brake and not using the handbrake would cause me to fail my driving test, in particular, hill starts. Is this no longer the case.

I turn mine off immediately on start up. I agree that it is incorporated for sales potential as it also lowers the tax band of the car.

"If you use the hand brake at traffic lights the stop start is automatically overridden, i.e. no footbrake, no stop start.."

Is it, that is not the way ours works, what replaces the "handbrake" is a parking brake that comes on automatically when the wheels stop turning; but the stop start still activates unless switched off.

I have to say that living in the sticks so very rarely in "stop-start" traffic driving neither of us can come to like the engine going into stop start, in any of our cars.

Yes ocsid but different makes utilise different systems, Land Rover auto's work as Bluemalaga said with the foot brake.
