IMO although the club may not specify having AO sites , I think t hey have acknowledged the situation by having small , quiet sites such as fairlight wood and Ashridge farm to name but two .

I guess that some of the comments are only contentious to people who disgree with them.......and cannot abide another point of view being put forward.

Such people usually suggest in forthright terms that the poster leaves the CC. Not at all democratic......but unfortunately what we have come to expect.

In my experience those club sites where there is little, if any, interest for families and children tend not to attract them in the first place so in effect become virtually child free anyway. For those wishing to introduce adult only sites I would question their reasoning behind this.  To introduce what in effect would be a ban on non adults at some sites would be totally against the club ethos in my opinion and thankfully, for that reason, I can't see it happening.

    Don't you start Nellie wink

I have never been on an adult only site. One of those that I would have used this year was an AS but unfortunately at the time that I would have wished to use it minimum booking was 7 nights and so not for me.

I have been on some AS sites however that have an adilt only area which seems a good halfway option but something I prefer not to see on CC sites I think

I never found a club site or cl that didn't hold some interest for my children.

These days unless everything is laid on, most "families" do not seem to be able to find the enjoyment of self help as we remember

Me neither but we went on holiday to be with our children and we would choose sites for the location and not what the site offered to children or did not offer. Indeed, most of our time was not spent on site but in the great outdoors surrounding it. Clearly some sites are more geared to children whilst others are not but to make some adult only would only reduce the options open to members. I still respectfully question why some want to 'ban' children from some though.

Adopting the term 'Adult Orientated' or 'Adult Focused' sites may be a better approach.

As I have a dog and have holidayed with grandkids -- the idea of A.O. and dog free sites would not be my choice,-----although I can see that for some caravanners it could be close to utopia.

No-one will ever know until the CC conducts a trial..  Therefore Nellie's idea, seems to be very sensible, open minded and modern.

It would be completely harmless and only affect the chosen CC sites during the experiment. Those who have dogs and kids, would, like I would do,  just choose a site not on the experimental list.

You never know,, The idea might catch on -or - not prove popular. The only way to find out is to trial it.

Only the dinosaurs on here have closed minds,---- the rest of us realize that the world moves on.

I would like to see some sites such as Clumber Park AO just at weekends wink

Seriously though ....... Clumber Park is on our tour route and we are deliberately avoiding the Saturday by arriving on Sunday. Still would not wish to see any AO sites

May be a better starting premise would be to categorise such sites, as already suggested, Adult Focused. May be this could be trailed first before contemplating a ban on children which in my opinion would be against the ethos of the club.

That's a good suggestion, micky, and so much more positive than the "let's try banning things and see what happens" idea!

The club now has an "ideal for" section at the start of club site descriptions and maybe this could be made a bit more prominent to encourage folk to choose a site which is more likely to suit them whilst still retaining the club's basic ideology of being inclusive to all members?

The issue that may arise on a "adult focused" site is ,if a family arrived would they feel that everyone is "looking" at them ,and make them feel uncomfortable...............

The CC is a family club first and last and thats how it should stay.If it goes down the road of excluding children at any time on any of its sites then it will cease to be that.I find it very difficult to understand why anyone would want this type of setup but each to his/her own.Caravanning is and always has been a family activity. To those who crave this sort of site i say find one somewhere else because for me there is no place in my opinion for adult only sites in the CC.

I don't think that's likely to be the case HD, since, presumably the family would have made a conscious decision to use the site anyway.

I know we've had complaints about children cycling or playing ball games on site in the past on CT but actually on the sites themselves that's rarely a problem and in fact could be even less so if the family were aware of the nature of the site to start with.

Well I certainly would not look at them in a negative manner and I'm pretty sure those who may would be in a minority.

No, we can't let these folk dictate, pass judgements and make holidays uncomfortable for fellow members. If they do start to make holidays uncomfortable for other rule abiding members then it is they who should be banned!

So some post that the club is living in the last century, or such having an AO site would be popular. Once again are these claims based on preconceptions and prejudice, or those that don't like children (which is fine by the way) or true facts?

Bored here at Heathrow (and the Business  class lounge is very good, perhaps there should be a business class pitch on club sites?) so the club's Buxton site is fully booked (already!) in July and half of August. The local AO site Clover Fields is not. Surprising isn't it especially as Clove Field is £4 per night more expensive?

Maybe, just maybe the club has done it's homework?

Seeing the post title I would have not bothered to look further, as neither of the two things suggested appeal to me, but was drawn by a post that had got 94 replies-by the time I had looked through it 101.

    I was reminded of a saying that a colleague used, at the end of his e-mails, that;

" It is the sign of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it" and wish that could be the case as i would like to make a meaningful contribution.

    However, having looked through the 101, and counting, replies I will follow Cybers example;

“I am not young enough to know everything.”
    ― Oscar Wilde

Well looked at few AO sites around York, York Caravan Park (2 miles) has plenty of space (availability good) while Rowntree Park is rather full. Again can't understand this as the non club is again cheaper? and AO?wink

I,ve seen comments that infer that adult only sites are forward thinking and to dismiss them is outdated well concider this.If you want to talk about forward thinking we are supposed to be liveing in a progressive and none discrimatory world more than ever these days or am i missing something ?? so the idea of banning certain members of society is going to fit in with that ethos is it ?? not for me it is,nt. Here,s an idea lets have a couple of 18 to 30 sites or an over 65,s site or some sites with only one pitch for those that really want it quiet wink

I personally am not in favour of AO or dog free sites -------------- but there are obviously other members who may benefit from either or both.

I therefore respect their right to hold that opinion and the subject is valid for discussion.

A previous poster included this within their post :-  "" It is the sign of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it" ---------- " and wish that could be the case as i would like to make a meaningful contribution ".

Those members making a meaningful contribution are as valued as those who want to bury the subject under the carpet.

Whole heartedly agree with that, it reminds me of that saying: 'Consider the opinion and then the other opinion'!

However, things are rarely as binary as we may wish them to be and often many shades of opinion need to be acknowledged and considered when planning for change.

    That's enough philosophy for today!wink
