Water Supply To Electric Only Pitches
I am a relatively new motorhomer with no previous caravanning experience and where possible only stay on serviced pitches as I don't wish to move my motorhome once it is positioned on the pitch. Can anyone advise what are the chances of having access to a water tap close to my pitch to which I can connect my fresh water hose when necessary. I realise that sites will vary but I am asking about 4 star sites which don't offer serviced pitches. Sorry if this is the daft question of the day!

not a daft question at all....
your MH tank shpuld last quite a long time, ours lasts 4/5 days even with us showering in the van...
should you need to top up, try having two hoses that ypu cam join together with a hoselock fitting, should be fine even if the tap is a long way off....
good luck...

Lots of us M/homers use the well known trick of
carrying a watering can or similar and adding a couple
of fills ( about 5 galls or so ) depending on our usage.
If you use the Site amenities for showering, washing dishes
etc you use rather less water from your on-board tanks
than you would expect. BUT should you make full use of
the vehicles shower, if fitted, then the consumption increases
markedly !
Must say tho' that Questions are only viewed as "Daft"
If you know the answers !!

Most Club Sites have pitches that are next to service points, so you just need to try and get one of these (you can view the site layouts) and carry a long hose. Just don't hog the tap though, fill up in the afternoon, perhaps when most folks are out elsewhere. A lot of Club Sites do of course have serviced pitches, you just pay a little bit extra.

I wouldnt entertain £4:90 a day (or whatever the rate is) to ise a pitch where i turn the tap on every fifth day.....money down the drain...

I've seen a canny trick along the lines of BB's suggestion, it was a hose lock type fixture to a tap with another access tap for others to use whilst the Moho owner was topping up. Clever & ensuring no one complained of hogging the tap. Excellently thought out

You will need to be aware of others' needs, DB. Perhaps the best way would be to check with the warden first if you want to fill your tank anywhere other than at the MH service point.
Have you considered how you might empty your waste tank without Ieaving your pitch?

ah Rocky, we MHers are pretty 'canny' as you say..
....as with the dual water tap outlet sharing the water, some 'canny' vanners even carry a dual EHU plug so that they can share their neighbours leccy.....
of course, im not that canny.....

Argh! Backflow and contamination. You will have the local public health chappies in paroxisms of delight as they can shut down the site now!

I thought most bib taps had double check valves to prevent this?

A point worth mentioning is that your waste grey water tank will fill before you need fresh water.
If you use your MH as a caravan,( ie static for more than a few days) it would be wise to copy the caravanners .....use a remote waste container then the MH method with a watering can to top up the fresh tank.

The beauty of a Motorhome is that you can have days out touring the surrounding countryside and places of interest from the campsite and take your facilities with you. ----------- It is a simple job to Fill up and empty at the M/H service point either when going out for the day or upon your return.
Cheers .....................K
P.S -- Remember to leave a ( Pitch in use by a motorhome ) sign prominately displayed on your pitch, so that nobody pinches your pitch when you are away from site

The OP suggests the possibility of using a normal service point to refill tanks. Whilst I have seen that done I have also seen notices saying that service points should not be used for such purposes. We use an external water container as we have a means of pumping the contents into the main tank we suits us if we are on site for more than a couple of days. Other use a watering can to top up the tank. Whilst it might depend on the OP's physical ability to lug fresh and waste water around I am not sure I would be keen to pay another £4 a night extra to have those facilities closer to hand. Obviously different if you are a caravanner was supply of water and disposal of waste water is in the main done by external containers.

Never seen such a sign, but agree that MHs should not monopolise a service point.
However, if you are near enough one, as a caravanner I would have no problem with you, as a MHer connecting a hose as long as you were prepared to disconnect after a minute or two should a caravanner need to fill their Aquaroll.
You could complete your filling afterwards.

A thrify solution could be to book a service pitch for one night, then an unserviced pitch for a few more, than a services pitch again so that facilities are not going unused but charged for when not needed all the time.

We must be using different sites then, as I have never seen a sign saying it was not permitted to connect a hose to a shared tap to refill.
I am fairly laid back usually, but if I was waiting to fill an Aquaroll, and a MHer was monopolising the tap for more than a few minutes, I would be tempted to point out that there was a dedicated MH service area.
It does work both ways though. One site we have used a few times has a MH point very conveniently located for filling the Aquaroll if you are on a nearby pitch, I do use it but would not expect a MHer to stand and wait till I had finished filling.
What does it say on the underside of your step?

I agree with KJ, that it works both ways, having been a caravanner I wouldn't expect someone to wait at a water tap service point while I fill my M/H with 100 lts neither would I be pleased to have to wait at the M/H service point while someone filled their water hog.
In answer to the OP, I normally wouldn't choose to use a service pitch and pay the extra £4 + a night, never did as a caravanner and certainly not now we have a M/H. However if you are physically unable to lug around water hogs, or if you really don't mind spending an extra £4+ a night then who are we to say otherwise.
Like others have said up thread we carry 2 long hoses which we can join together should we be within reach of a service tap, yes we have used them on CC sites, not aware of any signs saying otherwise but will look when we are next on a site. Like DK we also have the ability to fill our tank via a water container outside and pump it in, we have done this on occasions when we have been overseas and on a pitch for a week or more and don't want to take in the canopy and unhook the EHU, move chairs etc.
Of course if the OP was to go abroad where all these rules and regulations don't exist he would have no problem, also the water taps are usually more frequent and lots of sites have taps on the pitch at no extra cost.

On our last visit to Incleboro Fields at West Runton there was a notice on the first Service Point up from Reception asking motorhomes not to fill up there. Now that might be because of the location of the service point but there was a sign. Since then all the signs have changed to the new design so whether it is still there I don't know. However there is a difference between using a hose from a nearby pitch and blocking the road whilst you fill up at an undesignated place.

In answer to the OP who knows what the chances are-how long is a piece of string...........or hose?!
On the point of using a hose from a 'communal tap' I agree with the sentiment that, so long as you are not inconveniencing others, it should not be a problem.
I have filled my Aquaroll at a MHSP, Baltic Wharf springs to mind, and have seen people filling their MH tanks with a long hose at Alderstead from a communal tap.
As Tammygirl says there may be reasons that you would want use a serviced pitch, and I have sitting in my house an Aqua Pro kit for that very use on a February rally, I don't recall ever seeing a MH on one.
Our MH friends that we holiday with every year have a very long hose, lots of adapters and a watering can and they only use sites exclusively, rather than Aires, because they are with us so paying more for a serviced pitch would be a no no.

At Crossways site one year,a M/H was filling his tank with a long hose ,I arrived with my aquaroll and he offed to take his hose off so I could fill mine ,but I said leave it ,I can wait and we had a chat , unless you want the water to put out a fire ,what's the rush , we're on holiday
