Adult only sites & number of dogs

I personally do not like the idea of trying to make CC sites exclusive to individuals. I find it strange that someone wants to find a site where children are banned and yet take three dogs on site. The forum would have something to say to me if I said I wanted to take my grandchildren to a dog free CC site!!

You're welcome to bring your GCs to any CC site, Broadside. There are no dog free CC sites and no plans to make them so - we have been assured.

Your "second point" question Ian
I'm a member of the Caravan Club
I'm sure you'll be surprised to know I trust their professional decisions based upon the data they harvest - including marketing decisions
Do I think as a single member I (or you) should be trying to dictate to the Club that they should launch an experimental "AO" policy on half their network based on my own views as opposed to 1M other members?
Erm, no I don't!
Cheers
Bugs

As a caravanner who uses AO sites - usually CLs - I'm happy with the current CC policy of not restricting the use of its sites to suit a particular wing of its membership. We select CC sites with the knowledge that children are welcome. We also have an idea which sites are unlikely to attract families especially the smaller non facility sites which we we use regularly when they are located in an area we wish to stay.
Many caravanners are just that because they caravanned with parents as children - I'm one - and would hate the idea that the CC would put anything in place that could potentially reduce membership in the future and change the ideals of enjoying caravanning as a family..

As a general point, Bugs I think that you will find that we are all allowed an opinion......or should be.
More specifically, you have already admitted that you don't have access to CC marketing research (if indeed, such research exists).
Also, you make a very bold assumption that a million people would have a different opinion to me (or you) on any particular issue. Not really credible, I'm afraid.
Cheers,
Ian

Ok, lets take those points one by one...........
1. Where did I say folks weren't allowed an opinion Ian?
2. No I don't have access to CC Market Research (why on earth would I?) - but I trust my Club to be gathering such info and making decisions accordingly - don't you?
3. No, my mention of the size of the membership was merely to point out that you asking for the Club to turn over 50% of sites to AO wasn't realistic - as the current marketing strategy seems to be working rather well!

I don't think the club would throw away any income, especially so lucrative. Even if it could replace all those families currently staying with adults, they would lose all the income from those children's fees. Even on those sites with a £1 per child v £3 that's a lot of money to be lost when you consider how many children use club sites over the year. Fees for adults would have to be higher to compensate.
Like Bugs I trust the club to do the sums and work out what's best. Of course if you don't like what the club does you can go elsewhere. You don't have to stay on club sites.

I dont actually think AO sites would alter usage figures much at all as I would hazard a guess that most pitches throughout the year are already occupied by adults and most of them retired
It would indeed be a guess as you have stated that you don't go to club sites apart from going over the water.
As someone who does and has used them extensively in every school holiday and in the past most weekends, I can tell you, on the sites I've been on (and thats a lot) they are full of families with children.

Do you don't think families with children use CC sites much, not even during peak holiday times? I wonder how you arrive at that strange conclusion, David. Is it something you've witnessed when you stay on CC sites for, is it, two nights per season?
Your use of the term 'hysterical dog group' is rather derogatory to say the least. Who is hysterical? Who forms the group? I think you are using a group name which the CM has said contravenes guidelines. That could be reported, you know.
I haven't seen anyone call you a dog hating troll so I've no idea why you think you are owed an apology. Surely you're not referring to the post you reported which we've been asked not to discuss?

As some seem to be putting forward suggestions for AO sites, here's my penny's worth.
How about the club making some sites, as an experiment of course, AO from Monday to Thursday inclusive out with the school holiday periods. Would be easy to implement as that seems to be the case now anyway!!

I'm sure that your first paragraph is very true, David.
In fact, I would say that the extra bookings that would be encouraged would more than make up for the small amount of revenue lost (because of the artificially low rates charged for children).

I agree Broadside - I find it quite incomprehensible why anyone would want to be a member of the caravan club and then impose restrictions on which sites other members can use.
As I said earlier there are plenty of alternatives out there for folk wanting AO or dog free sites. If the club went down a similar route it would reduce choice and variety. Why would anyone argue for that?

+1
Sadly some just want to change the club to suit their own interests.as you say if they don't like children don't join or even rejoin a club that welcomes them and find some sites that are AO.
But of course they won't be club sites and somehow these same posters do appear to want to use them a lot. they must have some appeal?

Its really quite simple.
The Club offers a range of sites - and decides what each site should offer based upon professionally gathered data and information.
Members join the Club, or not, and use the sites, or not.
Up to now, its worked rather well!

I agree and , in fact the question was unnecessary in a way since the answers to the OP's questions were easily found from the club handbook or website.
I just wondered, having asked the question, what swift's reaction was to the answers he got.

Particularly interesting as he/she managed to fit two contentious issues into one post.

HD, of course those things are allowed to be mentioned. I think the point is, and I stand to be corrected by the OP here, that the context in which they were originally brought up here inevitably led to some of the more nonsensical posts which followed (as, sadly has happened so many times before).
Hopefully, swift has had his questions answered although he/she seems to be conspicuously absent from the thread since opening it. Smiley smiley!

So you must expect replies in the same manner
