We've only just joined the Club & we've been researching the site reviews on here and also on tripadvisor prior to booking.

I am quite astounded at the reviews that some people write and their reasoning for marking down a site. For example on tripadvisor there is a review of a CC site in Cornwall and the reviewer only gives the site 1 star out of 5 because it rained during their weekend and when they rang the site to book the warden failed to warn them this could happen and it ruined their stay.

Thomas Cook Holidays have released some of the complaints that their customer services team have received, the best was from a woman who went with her husband to India and was "disgusted" to find that all the local restaurants served Curry's and spicy food which they don't eat because it's "foreign muck". Another complaint Cooks received was from a couple who went to Madrid and found out that all the Taxi drivers were Spanish!!

The scary thing is that these people live amongst us and they get a Vote !!!!!!!

I wouldn't worry about site reviews. As the saying goes 'one man's meat is another man's poison', just use the sites as a means to an end. Somewhere to stay in an area you wish to visit, if the site doesn't come up to your expectations then don't revisit it. After all - your accommodation is yours that you brought with you, so that should be OK.

The club sites are varied in size, location and outlook. Sometimes you get a sunny pitch when you want shade, other times a shaded pitch when you might prefer a sunny one,

Check the site out on Google Earth to get an idea as to how it is set up.

    Enjoy your camping.

I use the trip adviser site as a sort of very rough barometer of what's its really like. If there 80%+ of reviews ok then it probably is. I also look at the way any bad reviews are written? Are they well written, concise, structured, balanced? I also disregard anything outside the place's control.

OH and I worked in industries that had a lot of "public contact" and the expectations of some were, to put it mildly completly out context with the real world, and a complaint would normally be forth coming, but normally only when (as trip advisor etc shows)not at the time, and then exagerated out of all context of the actual "incident",hoping in their sub normal minds to course as much damage to stop others useing said organisation

But,as most of us know the rest of the "reviews" should show a more balanced picture

I do similar to what Corner says above.

Disregard the extreme views (good or bad) and go by the middle 80% or so......some people will always complain, some can see no fault because it might be a reflection on them for their choice.

    Such is life......

I do use site reviews and find them quite helpful but you do have 'read' through them and get a rough idea of what the site is like. After reading them for many years you know those that are the correct ones and easily reject those where people are having a go just because (for example) the warden did not greet him/her very well, I do find some of them amusing, some of the reasons why they give a bad review is because the view from the pitch was not good, the stones on the hardstanding were not good and they hurt the dogs feet, the walk to the beach was through a housing estate, there was noise from the road when the camp site is quite near the very road that bought them there, the wardens did not bow and scrape to them when they arrived, the dog walk is not good enough, children on site during school holiday times, and many more, always good for a laugh!!

To be honest, I don't worry too much about the reviews for CC sites as I have found the sites consistently good anyway.  The usefulness is often in the extra information which folk add e.g. a good pub locally, access to the site, closeness of supermarkets or local camping shop, how far away the nearest beach is etc.

If in doubt about a particular posters review, and if you have time, it might be worth reading reviews of other sites by the same member, to give you an idea of the soer of thing that member is looking for in a site.  It might help folk to worry less about the odd negative report.

I give little credence to site reviews.  They are usually written by people with a particular axe to grind.

If the review is Objective - it has some value.

If it is purely subjective - I ignore it.

A camp site is somewhere to park your van while you go out and about enjoying your holiday.------------ CC sites are all kept to a  good standard by the site staff.

I think that reviews are more relevant for CLs and commercial sites than for club sites as the latter are much of a muchness in their standard of facilities. If you've been on one you know what to expect.
